Last time the flag appeared on the eve of Iran’s unprecedented missile and drone attack on Israel in April this year.

The flag has been raised for the sixth time in Iran’s history.

On the one hand, I agree that someone has to stop Israel from continuing to genocide the Palestinians because they’re not going to stop themselves. On the other hand, I have very little hope that a regional war will actually make things better

the Nazi concentration camps only really became systematic death camps as the war took a turn for the worse for the Germans on the Eastern Front, before that they were primarily labor camps. Does this mean the Soviets should not have pushed into Germany and destroyed the Nazi state? Allow them to keep permanent labor camps of jews and communist dissidents? Historical justice demands victory and unconditional surrender of our enemies. Anything less is a failure of justice. We are not responsible for the reactionary nature of capitalists, they do that themselves.

I mean the last time Iran raised this flag something significant did happen. Iran directly attacked Israel and landed several successful hits on military targets in Israel. The US was forced to help defend Israel and intercept drones and missiles.

      • the heaviest radar+air defense in the world, in addition to the US military immediately intercepting, and they still hit the site with missiles they have a shitton of

while it was reported on as hyper-sonic missiles, that’s just in their final stage. it’s not like Iran used some kind of glide weapon thing. they have a shitton of these missiles. didn’t take many drones to get them through

Virtually no missiles made any contact with anything (I think one Druze child was killed?). Pretty much nothing happened in that case.

Like, can we just kill one Knesset member or anything. Someone significant. In minecraft, obviously. I would never condone the killing of Isn’traeli officials.

The world is still too profitable for the bourgeois class, a nuclear exchange will devastate the world, thus wiping out vast profits. There will be no nuclear exchanges in the foreseeable future. Unless there is a proletarian uprising, or climate catastrophe, the profits of the bourgeoisie are safe for now.

People are laughing at you, but we’re talking about a nuclear power whose population are rioting because they can’t brag about gang-r-word Palestinian prisoners in social media and who believe bioengineering a red heifer will force God to bring about their long-awaited Messiah.

These unhinged freaks are not rational actors.

And plus tactical nukes are a thing. Not all nukes are designed to blow up cities. If nukes are going to be in play, tactical nukes will first be used before strategic nukes. And we know the IOF is completely useless when they’re not murdering children or sodomizing unarmed prisoners. Is it beyond a possibility that a floundering IOF will use a tactical nuke in a desperate measure to get as least a W?

While it’s certainly a possibility considering the fascist derangement of the zionist state, the use of a single nuclear weapon anywhere on earth will unravel the global economy, radioactive fallout crossing multiple borders is not something any state has the capacity to ignore without declaring war

The zeitgeist shift alone will crash the US empire in Eurasia and Africa, intra-capitalist conflicts will erupt all over the world, with most capitalists wondering “Am I safe?”, “Should I leave this country and move to that one or should I stay?”, and most importantly “Who’s next, me and my pals?

The US neocons in charge of imperial policy are collectively arrogant but not collectively nihilistic, they have a ceiling and while their brutality has wrong-footed many of us, they still want the neoliberal global economy to tick along, regardless of their miscalculations that imperil it

The weirder thing about any nuclear use, especially by Israel, is what that could even look like.

Israel’s nuclear capability isnt totally known; are these kiloton options or megatons, are there dozens of warheads or hundreds, what is the delivery apparatus, what are the targets? We can guess at a lot of these but the reality of what theyre capable of and what the ramifications of use of these devices is nearly infinite.

Not to mention, who would fire back at the colonialist entity? Is Russia going to muster their plentiful supply? America would not, unless it joined in for Israel and hit its own targets. China has very little reason IMO to commit, especially when it might be the most affected by potential fallout by even a limited exchange. Pakistan? India? Does Turkey liberate the US missiles on its territory and use them?

The US neocons in charge of imperial policy are collectively arrogant but not collectively nihilistic, they have a ceiling and while their brutality has wrong-footed many of us, they still want the neoliberal global economy to tick along, regardless of their miscalculations that imperil it.

They dont have to be collectively nihilistic, just enough of them at any one time in the right places can end all of humanity. We got too close and very lucky in the Cuban Missile Crisis. We might be closer than we think already.

shipwreck is actually a very active reader of current events and good analyst, especially on the economic side of things. I think this prediction is a bit of a stretch and the time table is unlikely, but it’s not absurd it’s quite plausible and even likely to go this way. Israel will fall into its contradictions, American empire will falter under its own weight eventually and the sampson option will be threatened.

The problem is that we don’t realy know how serious the US realy is about winning the war in Ukraine.

By all evidence so far they’re not actualy very threatened or willing to make any meaningful concessions to Ukraine. From day 1 they refused to give Ukraine cruise missiles etc. They tried to say keep the US out of the fight and they made sure Russia couldn’t use US assistance as justification. Then the military escalation we saw was a complete joke as a result. The US said Ukraine can’t attack pre-Crimea invasion borders for example.

Of course between incompetence, delusion and some deeper strategy perhaps its all three, but if we just take the incompetence and media narratives at face value, then Ukraine was nothing but a long term grift, meant to allow the US to encroach on Russia, a plan that backfired when Putin actualy decided to go to war at first and when their “contingency”(aka sanctions) failed later on.

I wont go further but you can see this is very different from the entire context and meaning behind Israel’s existence and US support there.

If you want to have a peek at what the west is actualy thinking look at Rand corporation papers on Ukraine-Russia

It is very enlightening to see how they think of Russia as some “competition” for example. Some(most?) of these end up copy pasted over on western media btw.

      • The shock will be an order of magnitude greater than 9/11, and the world will have to adjust to that new reality.

you’ve got that heavy LaRouche/Posadas tone down. although I already consider us to be in WWIII there’s always a hint of WWIV in the alignment against the NATO+ bloc. sure why not. but that’s good.

I looked up what this flag is about.

The flag bears the Arabic phrase, “Ya la-Tharat al-Hussein,” which can be translated in English as, “O ye avengers of Hussein.” As Muhammad’s grandson, Hussein is one of the most sacred figures of Shia Islam, in which he is the incarnation of justice. He was killed in the year 680 at the battle of Karbala, in present-day Iraq, by caliph Yazid’s troops.

This battle and Hussein’s martyrdom are the founding elements for Shia Islam, and mark a definitive schism with Sunni Islam. According to certain Iranian Shia traditions, “Ya la-Thara al-Hussein,” should be a rallying cry for believers upon the return of the Hidden Imam, the last of twelve imams recognized in Imamiyyah, the largest branch of Shia Islam.

    Source: https://factcheck.afp.com/no-red-flag-revenge-was-not-raised-first-time-iran-mosque

It’s flown regularly in the first month of the Islamic calendar. For Shia Muslims, it’s a period of mourning dedicated to him. Outside of that, it’s on moments like this, meant as a sort of rallying cry.

Wikipedia claims that “it also flown [sic] in response to the COVID-19 pandemic in Iran whenever a milestone of casualties was reached”, but I couldn’t find sources for it elsewhere.
