A coffee house in one of the most reactionary towns in Colorado. Of course they have some kind of evangelical church inside.
Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark, in the hopeless swamps of the not-quite, the not-yet, and the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish in lonely frustration for the life you deserved. The world you desire can be won – it exists…it is real…it is possible…it is yours. – Ayn Rand.
Who is John Galt?
We were founded out of a desire for quality, community, and integrity. And amazing coffee.
Our founder, T.J., worked for a company that specialized in the local college bookstore. Except for their one coffee shop. The company’s focus meant that they didn’t understand how to run a coffee shop And their policies and decisions made it hard for their baristas to be good at their jobs.
Enter Ayn Rand.
For many people, when they discover the writings of Ayn Rand they find themselves caught up in a whirlwind of philosophical shake-downery, and T.J. was not immune. Her ideas about personal responsibility and individualism and integrity are encapsulating, and many people are influenced, for better or worse, to find the best of themselves in their work.
This was particularly true for T.J. as he delved into his passion for brewing coffee and interacting with the people who buy it. At the intersection of wanting to be a great barista, and working for corporate overlords who didn’t care about that junk, T.J. found the inspiration to open a store of his own.
-
A store where baristas could be free to experiment, and search, and learn, and actually keep their store open when their customers wanted to be there.
-
A spot for lonely college students to spend their time when they might not have anywhere else to go.
-
An injection of something beautiful in a town that has more to give than seen at first glance.
So we started John Galt Coffee. In a theater. With a church. Because we believe that much more can be done in this community than just making great coffee.
We named it after one of Ayn Rand’s heroes, as an homage to her influence. And frankly, because people asking us exactly “who is John Galt” is just plain funny. We are pretty sure that she wouldn’t be pleased with our choice, but we might not be here without her.
If you would like to know more about Atlas Church, here’s a link. They do some pretty great things.
If you want to know more about The Atlas Theater, here’s a link. They’re also available for renting.
And if you’re wondering, the name “John Galt Coffee” being inside “The Atlas Theater” was a coincidence. No intentional connection whatsoever. Oops.

Damn, her writing sucks
I’ve never felt comfortable judging her writing because she’s ESL and moved to the US from Russia as an adult. If I spent the next 20 years learning Russian I doubt I could write good prose because that requires a musical understanding of the language.
Her ideas? Absolute baby shit. Her stories? B-b-b-baby shit. Her prose? I can see why it appeals to libertarians who don’t otherwise read.
Fair. I didn’t know she was Russian, not USAsian. I read the excerpt, with its laboured repetition, under that misconception.
I have a theory she was actually a soviet agent used to bring about the acceleration of late stage crap-it-all-ism.
We need a :genisis-loveless: emoji.
Who is John Galt? What is the gift of the Goddess?
It really reads like every single right wing grifter out there. It’s all empty platitudes and reassurances using big words and needlessly complex turns of phrase to sound more intelligent and profound than it actually is.
there needs to be a gonzaloist cafe that serves poached eggs
Hexbear doing a pop-up would be a good bit.
PPB&Co Coffee
there is a coffee place near me that is this but for Spinoza lol
I badly want to share an amazing themed coffee house, but I think there’s only one or two in the country, so I’d be partially doxxing myself.
gealt is Irish for lunatic: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/gealt#Noun
I mean the etymology of his name was 100% from Yiddish “gelt” - “money”.
Rise and grind
Who is John Galt? When will John Galt shut the fuck up?

Bloody capitalists, they ruined capitalism!
Also, 99% percent of the time when a coffee company or store has branding like this, it’s a red flag that their coffee is ass. Especially as “company specializing in the local college bookstore” no doubt means Barnes and Nobles, which means he was working in a B&N Starbucks.
Caring about what Ayn Rand would have thought about you is literally the exact kind of thing she thought was communist evil. Libertarians are such fucking losers.
Also she fucking hated religious people. Did these losers even read her?
Did these losers even read her?
Of course not, or they would have realized her philosophy fucking sucks. Libertarians don’t read, they just vaguely agree with things other libertarians say.
Why is the background of the website a photo? It looks fucking terrible.
It makes the grey text unnecessarily difficult to read
there’s something so libertarian about starting a small business explicitly as a retort to the perceived bad business sense of your last employer.
So ya started a church coffee bar to try to write everything off as a non profit while worshiping the prophets of late stage crap-it-all-ism? Also rent the empty space that I also pay no taxes on.
She should open up a weed shop in the building and claim it’s for religous purposes and sue under 1st amendment rights if they try to tax her or shut her down. Be the freeloader you desire and spit in the face of the authorities. , my captain!
Respect the grift I suppose.

What?
Massaging my shoulders with my own brain as I write yet another astutely corpulent paragraph
I’m still trying to figure out what they meant. Enrapturing maybe? Entrancing? Proof reading is communism.
He’s either trying to say that it’s an extensive body of ideas or that it’s engrossing to him. I’d lean toward the latter but like entrancing or extensive it’s a word you’d know without getting your dick caught in a thesaurus trying to find it. Enrapturing would be a good alternative to engrossing. It could go either way but extensive is already a $3 word and you don’t need to dress that up as a $5 one.
Whoever chose the font/background combo for that website needs to be shot. Shit’s unreadable.
C’mon now Atlas shrug!
