Whether or not you think that a Biden vote is harm reduction, the portrayal of the non voter/third party voter argument as “buh buh buh revolution…?” is pretty tired. When Joe has promised to be tougher on the “enemies” of the US than Trump, had credible allegations of rape against him, and has also blamed China for the virus… I’m just sick of all the left adjacent super popular breadtubers calling people’s reasonable trepidations about voting "larping ". You can make arguments for harm reduction, this video isn’t that.

Making a strawman called Tabi-Chan to deride for an entire video while talking down to them endlessly really strikes me as incredibly stuck up and divisive. It does not strike me as convincing. It does not strike me as a good way to reach out and convince people.

The only people this will appeal to are the people that already agree with it. The people it is trying to ““convince”” are going to just look at it and be offended by the shamelessly offensive caricature Contra is presenting of them.

This is a grift. She is pandering to her audience while shamelessly aiming to trigger the people the video claims it wants to convince.

Yes and the video has succeeded in its intention – to trigger us into sharing. It has done fuck all to convince anyone other than people that already agreed with it.

It’s all about getting more shares. Contra doesn’t actually give a fuck about meaningfully affecting the election in any way, she has just solely made this for grift.

well i finish it, bad video overall, made weak attemps to try to get the left to vote by saying that biden will move left on the issues that matter and its mostly to give morale to the libs so they move seas and mountains to VOTE even with the voter suppresion

it’s pretty telling that her list of things that Hillary wouldn’t have done that Trump did was literally 100% symbolic actions.

I feel like a certain part of Twitter gets way too mad at ContraPoints over the most specious shit imaginable, but if she gets dunked on for her lukewarm takes in this video she deserves it. im gonna vote gloria la riva, and I suggest you do too.

I’m prepared for the downvotes and support the revolution, but considering we don’t currently have the left leadership in place to consolidate power doesnt it make sense to vote for Biden just to get a fascist out of office?

the problem is that there is no definition of fascist that includes Trump but excludes Biden, so really America currently has social fascism, not president will change that, heck even a bernie president would probably fight tooth and nail for some weak reforms that wouldnt achieve much.

really only way to get a little change in america is to organize against both republicans and democrats, and voting dems wont acomplish anything, because they like the social fascism, maybe not the racism but they like the surveillance, they like the corporatism and despotism, no dem would be allow to remove those things and I believe thats the problem with supporting not just the biden but the dems

I think the issue with “harm reduction” rhetoric is that it starts with the conceit that the argument they’re having with leftists is “Biden is no different”, and thus they want to convince you that he will reduce harm somehow. But actually, no, I don’t think there’s no difference if he’d win, that’s actually not true.

I think things would be worse, way way worse.

From a materialist perspective, a Biden presidency would strangle any revolutionary energy in its womb by using the overwhelming power of the State to co-opt and neuter the leftist struggle, all the while prosecuting the most radical actors to the fullest extent. His administration will reverse any gains socialism has made in the public eye, take us back to a time when the struggle was hidden behind an esoteric veil. Whereas Trump prevents any avenue from being pursued other than open warfare. His presence gets everyone out of the woodworks, it makes things clear to the average disaffected proletarian that there are only two options, socialism or barbarism, and the liberals struggle to make themselves relevant in the paradigm.

Liberals time and time again keep pressuring the left wing of America into voting, they think of you as complete fucking suckers, they have zero incentive to do anything for you if you keep going along with it. They have to suffer consequences, people are unable to learn unless they actually have consequences. And no I don’t think that will make them turn around and start offering socialist policy, I think they’re stuck repeating this cycle until we sink into the ocean, but each time it happens they lose more and more relevancy and the State loses more and more legitimacy. It’s the natural course of things, it is something we have to confront, and I’m tired of pretending it’s not going to come to a head.

Americans arent part of the International proletariat by maoist standards, so most times they really need a outside force to push them to radicalization

I agree, I myself am not an American, and that’s part of why this discourse is so frustrating because I can see a picture much larger than America, and I hate how much mental energy both online and in the global media is dedicated to whether the blue man or the red man should be in the white building during the period of time that the stupid fucking country collapses. Any material difference should be put towards answering the question of which man allows this to come to a head quicker because the country needs to stop existing as soon as possible for the betterment of the world, and honestly, Biden will just delay that.

Just finished and all i can think is that “breadtube” is now collectively trying to backpedal their propaganda efforts (just somemorenews and now contra that i know of). But for this vid specifically, it felt like a shitty, forced “debunk” of leftist talking points when it comes to apathy for voting.

Natalie, if you want to vote for Biden, great. Do it. It’s just… not going to matter. It won’t matter if Trump or Biden is president. I mean Jesus, Biden isn’t even proposing to fully repeal Trump’s tax cuts despite them being overwhelmingly unpopular. Oh sure he came up with a “climate plan” after he got the nomination but if he even gets 5% of it passed I’ll eat my hat. You and I both know even if the Dems win both houses of congress and the presidency, they’ll pass a few window-dressing measures about strengthening institutions, but otherwise they’ll sit on their hands for 2 years until Republicans come in and take both houses back.

Biden wins and we make zero progress on climate change, health care, income inequality, policing, LGBTQ rights, etc. Virtually no one’s material conditions will be different in 4 years whether Trump is president or Biden is. It doesn’t matter. I’m voting for Howie ostensibly because I want to send a message about the importance of climate change but even I admit it’s pretty weak and won’t really do anything. I’m voting because it makes me feel good to support leftist candidates where I can and there are some propositions/amendments in my state that actually matter.

Sorry, I’m going to have to close this thread because it breaks the !videos comm rules. As you can clearly see in the sidebar, this place is “Breadtube if it didn’t suck.”
