This feels like what could be a decent recipe and runs it through the processor of your average conception of FaMiLy ReCiPe™ that rears its ugly head this time of year. That bottleneck of post WWII consumerism really messed with our conception of what is and isn’t a culinary tradition.
The convenience factor fucked up a lot of it too. Homemade béchamel sauces got replaced with chunking a can of condensed cream soup and some milk in the pot.
TBF cream soup casseroles can work for some stuff but it’s firmly in the realm of “weeknight, want to make something easy to put on rice/egg noodles”. That shit should be well away from a Thanksgiving meal though.
non-euclidean food

Honestly looks like he just dumped a bag of shallots into cream of something soup and then topped it with some cheddar cheese. Nothing about that really seems appealing.
Creamed leeks are great so I’m sure this has the potential to work really well. But this looks like it was cooked with Kraft cheese slices, milk and shallots. I see no evidence of seasoning
The seasoning is the boiled milk
what in the fuck I’m usually in favor of midwestern atrcity food but this looks horrid
Let the Long Covid Cook.
Dishes like this can be and are good. What this guy did is a travesty to every ingredient involved.
