I based my title on a couple Bluesky posts I saw.

My sister used to work at the Post. After repeated layoffs, I’d sometimes teasingly start phone conversations with “How are things? Still got a job?” To which she would respond, “As of…[looks at watch] 10:10pm, yes.”

It is so very, very bleak. It matters so very, very much.

24,000 seems kind of low for all the newspaper employees in the country. I guess there are a significant number of independent journalists too, though.
