If you don’t submit enough signatures, you don’t get on the ballot. That’s true in several states. This isn’t even on the level of Trump fomenting insurrection. This is just either not enough people wanting him to run or his campaign not making the effort.

Right, it’s one of many built-in tasks to being President. Be 35 or older, be a naturally born citizen of the United States, don’t involve yourself in insurrections, and get enough signatures to appear on the ballot.

Isn’t there Secret rule that if you double up on any one qualification you get to ignore one of your choosing? I’m pretty sure that the Supreme Court will back me up on this. ;-)

They’ve been trying to get Christie to quit for the last couple of weeks. He doesn’t.

Probably doesn’t matter. As long as he’s still in the debates knocking vivek & co over, that’s good enough.

But wait! Shouldn’t Chris Christie be accused and convicted of a crime first? What about due process? If they would find more people who like Chris Christie, they’d all vote for him! The constitution! Get my feinting couch!

While I’m not voting for Christie or any Republican, I’m not a fan of ballot restrictions. Let people vote for whomever they want.

Funny, he didn’t get enough signatures to get on the ballot, so it sounds like not that many people want to vote for him anyway.

Take that to its logical conclusion: a ballot that can be hundreds of millions of names long. There has to be some criteria to be a candidate on the ballot to make names on the ballot useful.

You still can vote for him…you just have to write his name. Same for Trump in Colorado. Problem is, many of the voters probably don’t know how to write correctly.

Are you sure? I read elsewhere on Lemmy that he’s ineligible for voting for, not just literally appearing on the ballot.

Besides, I don’t know if Maine and Colorado are amongst them, but some states don’t allow write-ins.

Trump can be written in but those votes will be tossed since he’s ineligible.

Candidates must meet the basic qualifications for office.

Any person who wishes to be a write-in candidate for any office greater than a county office must file an Affidavit of Intent with the Colorado Secretary of State.

Trump has been disqualified from running in Colorado. Sure, you can write in his name, but that vote would be discarded if you did.

What’s happening in Maine with Christie is different-- he doesn’t have enough signatures to appear on the ballot, but write-in votes would still be tallied in his favor, as he is still legally allowed to run as an eligible candidate.

I believe that you can write anyone’s name in. It just has to be spelled correctly and legible.

Do you have any idea how insanely profitable it is to run for president even if you lose? If not for the barebones restrictions there ARE, there’d be THOUSANDS of candidates every primary!

No doubt. That’s why people run for office all the time and have no chance. All you need is a few rich donors and doom, you never need a real job again.

You should start trying to be a fan of understanding the very basics of running for office.

      Just give it a try.
