    They have more chromosomes and the nature of their variation is different compared to humans. A professor of mine talked about it, there are some peculiarities that make stuff like breeding on dogs possible.

    As well, if dogs are left to mate independently in the wild after a few generations they return to looking like wolfies.

      I know coyotes are just wild dogs (they can breed with pet dogs), and tbh dogs looking more like coyotes would be a good thing, they and wolves are cute and charismatic already
