A 6 year old. I just can’t wrap my head around it. The landlord played with the kid. Built him a fucking treehouse.

This is the problem with Democratic voters turning on Biden over Gaza. The Republican stance is that all Palestinians are Hamas, and they should be either killed or exiled. “Not calling for a ceasefire quickly enough” isn’t a thing on the right, and it never will be.

That’s…the entire point of the phrase.

        Are you just realizing this?

Boy are you in for a surprise when you find out that “cutting off your nose to spite your face” is slipping more and more towards the face not having a nose anymore.

That’s an odd response to what I wrote…what I said is that the two choices are becoming more and more evil, not that they are evil in the first place. Which is not how that phrase has typically been used (to justify selecting the lesser of the two evils).

Which, side note, may make sense in the context of, there are actually only two choices. But what we do is collectively lock ourselves into those two choices and then choose between them, when there are not only other parties and independent candidates we could support, but entirely separate political systems we could move to.

The entire point is selecting the lesser of two evils.

If you choose to eat strawberry ice cream instead of dog poop, that’s not selecting the lesser of two evils.

If you choose to eat bugs instead of dog poop, that’s where you’d refer to it as the lesser of two evils.

Having an objectively good option and an objectively terrible one isn’t choosing the lesser of two evils.

Having a terrible one and a slightly less terrible one is.

You are correct that we shouldn’t need to be choosing between the lesser of two evils, but that phrase only really applies when both options suck.

The republicans are not really governing: they are pandering. There’s no way such a measure could become law with the Democratic majority in the Senate. Even if such a measure became law, the Supreme Court would have to completely redefine due process for this to remain law, however, the Supreme Court did decide in favor of internment camps for Japanese American citizens, so I supposed this can not be ruled out.

Because of the Trumps presidency a lot of laws got changed that I would not have imagined possible. You don’t give the republicans enough credit for how much they can and will fuck up this country. The supreme court will have no trouble twisting the meaning of laws abd words to fit their agenda because they are not using laws in good faith.

It’s even more horrifying. America does have 2 parties, it’s just they’ve collectively dragged the overton window so far right that the “left” party is still to the right of most countries (extreme) “right” parties.

Similar results, but require very different fixes.

Watching, as an outsider, there’s not. That fact is truly horrifying. The democrats are roughly aligned with the UK conservative party. Shitty but tolerable. The republicans are way off in the sticks, with no comparison.

By analogy, democrats are like being shot in the gut with a high power paintball gun. The republicans are like being shot with a high caliber revolver. Both involve getting shot, both are unpleasant, but one is still FAR worse than the other.

Unfortunately if you don’t choose 1 then you will likely end up with even more.

The issue is that trying not to play, just plays into the hands of the extremists.

I watched something similar play out with Brexit. It was less a shit sandwich and more a firehouse of diarrhea shoved down our collective throat. It’s been less than pleasant. The people who were disinterested and didn’t vote made a huge difference. They didn’t want a shit sandwich, so got the fire hose with the rest of us.

The “both sides are the same” is a concern troll phrase. It’s almost always used by people whose views align extremely well with the republican party. It’s generally used as “both are the same, so why bother voting” though wrapped in more words.

Basically your sounding off with a right wing dog whistle, and people are reacting to it.

On this issue yes, on other issues, no. See: Republicans wanting to cut all support to Ukraine so that Daddy Vladdy can win his war.

Don’t forget that the 2016 DNC hack was accompanied by an equal hack of the RNC, it’s just that the Republican info was saved as kompromat where the Democratic info was released in the short term to damage them and help Trump win the election so Putin could have his puppet in the White House.

          Counterpoint:

Obama expanded the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, massively increased the drone strikes and continued the support for Saudi Arabia (the country that financed 9/11 and the nationality of the majority of those involved).

When it comes the US foreign policy, neither side is the good guy.

Google “Republicans 4th of July Moscow”

Our nations birthday and where are all these traitorous fucks? Taking orders from Putin.

And no. America did not put Putin in power. He made a power play on Yeltsin and had the presidency handed to him. Being the former head of the KGB, he knows how to press people to get what he wants. America also did not start the Ukrainian war, that started when Putin invaded in 2014 and stole Crimea. It can end today, Putin just had to go home. America should’ve bombed his personal mansion(s) for Crimea too, as we swore to defend Ukraine against an aggressive Russia when Ukraine gave up their nukes but Obama’s a bitch.

If you really believe your astroturfing you haven’t paid any attention to American party politics in, at least, the last 10 years. I know, cuz I do, almost religiously. Some people follow sports, some people like celebrities. I read, in this order, my cities, my counties, my states, then national, and finally international geo-politik. Political science/economics/philosophy are what I’m all about and not a fucking word of anything youve said has even an ounce of coherency to it.

You’re being downvoted but you’re not really wrong. Biden just sent millions of more dollars to the cops " to protect schools " as if American police departments aren’t already some of the most heavily armed and well equipped police in the world right now.

          https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/4289536-biden-administration-334m-police-officers-school-security/

The Republicans are definitely more overt in their anti women and anti queer rheortic and actions, but the dems are fortifying the military industrial complex when the writing on the wall is clearly that these weapons will be used agaisnt the people domestically rather then protecting any schools or whatever bullshit reason they come up with.

Many police have been openly supportive of fascist movements and helped facilitate Trumps election in the first place. Not to mention most American cops seem to think that the BLM protests were worse then J6. Giving them more weapons and power will only result in more death for the average person. They’re a quasi military/state within state force at this point.

The fact that this critism is not taken at face value is insane. Biden is a racist bootlicker in his own right. Democrats will sell the rope to the Republicans that they will use to hang them with.

So, giving more funding to cops is the exact same thing as the culture war Republicans have drummed up. Huh, interesting take. Also interesting to note that the one person you mentioned who is actually moderate at best is the sole representation of the entire Democrat party. No nuance and no other ideas are allowed. Just Biden’s. Got it.
