  • Anyone else Jewish and having a really weird time dealing with this? I was at my families annual Hanukah party, and apart from a few of my cousins and I, all my relatives seem to be losing their shit. I guess it makes sense that they’re all losing it. For Zionists with otherwise progressive beliefs, trying to rationalize support for Israel can only result in a shitload of internal contradictions, and we all know that leads people to weird places. It was awkward because my family knows my thoughts on Zionism, and some of my relatives were straight up icing me out. It’s even worse trying to go to Shabbat service and stuff like that. I feel like I’ve been totally cut out of a community that has done a lot to keep me sane over the years.

  • This is probably not a great stance to have, given that most Zionists are just Jewish people that (for one reason or another) haven’t been able to unlearn things that most of us are taught starting at a really young age. I grew up with a Jewish religious education and considered myself a Zionist for most of my life. The things that started to change that for me were 1) going to Israel on birthright and seeing shit for myself and 2) meeting people who were willing to make a good-faith effort to challenge my beliefs. Edgelord takes like this aren’t doing anyone any good.

  • Do you genuinely think this is a good idea for Venezuela? It’s not that I think it’s unjust, I honestly don’t know enough about the history of the disputed territory to pass judgement. It just seems like a really dumb move from Maduro. There’s no clear benefit resource wise (they already have enough oil), its not going to foster any goodwill among other South American countries, if the US gets involved Venezuela is fucked, and even if successful they’re going to have to sink a lot of energy into administering the newly annexed territory (which is never easy).
