The mastodon and lemmy content I’m seeing feels like 90% of it comes from people who are:
-
~30 years old or older
-
tech enthusiasts/workers
-
linux users
There’s nothing wrong with that particular demographic or anything, but it doesn’t feel like a win to me if the entire fediverse is just one big monoculture.
I wonder what it is that is keeping more diverse users away? Is picking a server/federation too complicated? Or is it that they don’t see any content that they like?
Thoughts?

Same. 30s, healthcare, no linux. Not even tech savvy at all, but I can follow directions well enough.
Same, am a nerd but not tech nerd. Approaching but not over 30 lol
I have the feeling people in healthcare also care more about moral issues, which was the main driver of leaving reddit, so it makes sense.

Rage is still human :D
But I think I get what you mean. That you actually listen to what the other person has to say and try to really understand them. Am I correct there?
In that case, yeah, it’s kind of required for there to be no hate/rage.
I often feel like people only talk at each other: their ego has to be satisfied, or talking is some form of entertainment. Instead of talking with somebody and trying to see the person behind the words. Basically empathy. I definitely prefer the latter.
