Isn’t the death toll actually estimated at 186,000 people? Of course this is a contested number but so too should the 34k number as it only counts people where they could confirm the body’s identity
This is the most conservative number using the most strigent id techniques. While others have estimated triple digits under the rubble, the health ministry (I’m assuming that’s who released the list) has erred on the side of numbers that can be explicitly proven to avoid the charge of inflating death numbers to support Hamas
