    Things that most Americans encounter:

    • friends and family who’ve had abortions
    • friends and family who’ve undergone fertility treatments
    • housing that is too expensive

Things that very few Americans encounter

    • people burning flags in the street
    • fully packed Trump 2024 rallies

This guy is a fucking clown.

Because people burning flags is a common occurrence and is a big deal. /s

      It’s dumber than that.

Flag burning was a big deal in the 60s. I remember calls for a Constitutional amendment gaining traction back in the 90s (maybe 80s?). The controversy was all over the news for some time and the right considered your take on it to be the litmus test of “true American.”

Trump’s reaching decades into the past, for what it currently a non-issue. It’s not desperation, it’s senility.

Based on this logic I guess we should see Harris campaigning on ERA any day now…

It actually is a common occurrence, since the U.S. Flag Code specifies that burning is the preferred method of disposing of flags that are no longer fit to display.

The US flag code literally calls for the flag to be burned when it’s no longer fit to display:

The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.

Yes, but ceremoniously is the intent. I’ve done many flag retirements. These flag burnings he’s referring to are as a message, which is totally fine and protected by the constitution, but it isn’t dignified. It’s not supposed to be. It wouldn’t send the same message if it were.

Symbols are an effective way to manipulate people emotionally. It provides people with an identity making it feel like they are fighting for their own ideals and not someone else’s.

The argument I’ve heard is that The Founding Fathers could have never had any idea that people today would be so terrible.

The Founding Fathers saw statues of the King pulled down and British flags burned.

They knew all about destroying symbols and didn’t put anything about it in the Constitution for a reason.

As an American, if there is a law that says I am not allowed to burn a flag, I will go to the store, buy every flag available, and burn them all.

    First amendment = best amendment

    I’m an Amendment-to-Be,

    Yes, an Amendment-to-Be,

And I’m hopin’ that they’ll ratify me.

There’s a lot of flag burners

Who have got too much freedom,

    I wanna make it legal

    For policemen to beat 'em.

'Cos there’s limits to our liberties,

Least I hope and pray that there are,

'Cos those liberal freaks go too far.

“Why can’t we just make a law against flag burning?”

“Because that law would be unconstitutional. But if we change the Constitution—”

“Then we could make all sorts of crazy laws!”

    “Now you’re catchin’ on!”

(Turns out you don’t need to change the Constitution, you just have corrupt Supreme Court Justices pull “interpretations” out of their ass.)

If we respect the flag so much, then apply the same penalties to those stupid Blue Lives matter flags, the flags with Trump’s ugly face on them, or any of the other MAGA crap that desecrates the flag.

/no, this is not serious, and no, burning a flag should absolutely not be a punishable offense

naw. the people he’s dictating to are gonna get carpel tunnel.

which is a shame because they’ve got to be pretty good at taking dictations to keep up with his shit.

MAGA is more about mental gymnastics than dictations, to be fair.

But y’all are probably right on both points. Have you seen how much Trump posts on Truth Social? He’s probably had Carpel Tunnel for YEARS!
