Write your representatives and encourage your friends to do the same. It’s a frequent topic of conversation, it only gets pushed louder in election years because people keep insisting on voting 3rd party in a FPTP election.

Don Beyer(D) proposed the Fair Representation Act in 2017 that included implementing RCV for electing representatives to the House.

It’s much easier to sell a national popular vote, since people are used to popular votes already. RCV will be much easier to push federally when there are plenty of states that use it locally. Until then it’s largely a non-starter.

Democrats have been behind, or at least caucused to support, most of the RCV initiatives that have been put forward.

Yeah I really don’t see the situation in the comic often at all. I won’t say it doesn’t happen, but I’ve personally witnessed way more of this reactionary diversion when men are discussing their unique issues.

And complementary to Chesterton’s Fence is a principle I’ve heard called Grandma’s Ham or the Monkey Ladder Experiment. Sometimes “we’ve always done it that way” is covering up outdated practices for purposes that no longer exist.

At first I thought 5 orders of magnitude, but 10,000x is way off. The closest I can reckon is they mean “magnified 100% five times”, i.e. 2⁵, or 32x, which seems like it could be right.

Okay, then what? Israel gets weapons from their other allies and we lose any leverage we do have. It’s almost as if this is a complex geopolitical issue, in fact so complex that “bringing peace to the West Bank” is a well established meme for an impossibly difficult task, and simple solutions have consequences not obvious to the layperson.
