Why are debates held by news organizations?
Why aren’t they done by some other organization not connected to the media and then the media simply invited to film it, like almost every other event out there?
Historically they haven’t. They usually are run by the Commission on Presidential Debates.
It used to be run by Women’s Suffrage groups but they let 3rd party candidates participate which spooked the Democratic and Republican parties, who then jointly created the commission to stop that from happening.
He’s probably worried about being fact checked (not that they fact checked him last time). Or being asked questions again when he tries to dodge them.
