I’m willing to bet that when China is single-handedly responsible for a noticeable lowering of pollutants in the atmosphere, the West is going to claim that as a victory for Western private initiative going green. I say that because the effect of China’s decrease in extreme poverty was largely responsible for the increase in living conditions across the globe on average, and yet that very same thing is famously claimed as a success of modern capitalism (looking at you, Pinker).

Weird how the capitalism in China improved conditions and yet the capitalism everywhere else in the world did not. I wonder what is specifically different about Chinese capitalism. Maybe other capitalists should emulate it since it’s clearly a better form of capitalism producing far better results.

Meanwhile in the west half of the non-existent gains are fake credits for EVs that nobody drives, while new data centers for bitcoin and ai keep going online.

It’s always baffling to see China publicly set concrete goals, then they either work towards it and achieve them or get very close. I have never seen anything like that in the US unless it’s something like “all student debt shall be considered for forgiveness by 2065” then 2065 hits and no one gives a shit about it because it was just a symbolic gesture

I’d say that’s the point of a target though. You’re meant to be able to hit it. Then you can set a new one. Much better than setting impossible or symbolic tasks and never even getting close.
