Thank fuck. Anyone who ever thinks it should be “off” or “automatic” with no option for “always on” should be shot. Automatic is fine for a default, but let people force it on or off, and let them pick the limits (within reason).

If I could limit my phones that are plugged in 24/7 to 60% I’d be so happy. If Apple is beating you in user choice then you’ve done something horrendously wrong.

is it so you can leave a phone plugged in forever without the battery ballooning?

It may still balloon limited to 80%, but it’s far FAR less likely.

Lithium ion batteries are happiest at about 40% charged so if you’re storing them that’s about where you’d want to change them to. 100% charged isn’t very good for them, and 0% is VERY bad for them.

It’s so you can extend the life of your device by not charging it to 100% all the time.

We at least have adaptive charging already, but having this option without needing an alarm set would be wonderful

Similar to the “turn off adaptive charging this time” notification there should be a “turn off charging limit this time” too.

As a sometimes Pixel user, I was jealous when iPhone 15 had an 80 percent charge limit option.

Samsung phones have also had this option for quite some time.
