      Many such cases

Gore Vidal theorized that Lincoln gave syphilis to Mary Todd and that’s why she went “mad” and some of their children died young. To be fair the anti-Mary Todd stuff was probably misogyny and everyone’s children died young in the 19th century.

Edit - Vidal in the NYRB:

No, there is no existing Wasserman report or its equivalent. But there is the well-known testimony of William Herndon, Lincoln’s law partner, that Lincoln told him that he had contracted syphilis in his youth and that it had “clung to him.” This is a primary source not to be dismissed lightly; yet Mr. Oates was quoted in the press as saying that there was never any evidence that Lincoln had had syphilis, ignoring Lincoln’s own words to Herndon. It was Newsweek, not I, who said that Mr. Vidal is a better historian than Mr. Oates. I have no opinion in the matter as I’ve never read Oates except on the subject of me, where he is bold and inaccurate.

I maintain both can be true. He has covid (covid-cool ) and also they only cancelled the event after he was due to start because he was even more dementia ridden than usual.

In what way is it editorializing? The video starts with him coughing. He’s wrapped up in a blanket on the couch. He speaks with a raspy voice.

At 50 seconds into the video he says “Has anyone ever been clapped up by POTUS? Maybe I’m the first.” Which is him directly saying that he is sick.

He also didn’t post that he was “joking until” like 3 hours after I made this thread. Lying isn’t joke. Dude is a liar.

        He’s a liar. Don’t blame me.

Didn’t mean to blame you, sorry, I just clicked all 3 links from the post and went “wait where’s the part where he says he’s sick?” I assumed if he was he wouldn’t have been at all coy about it idk

Then after posting I pulled up his twitter feed and saw the “just joking” tweet. Didn’t check timestamps or rewatch the videos to see exactly what he said.

What an absolute hype demon. Nothing about his video is funny. He just pretended to be sick and said lies that he is sick, I guess. I hate people who are liars.

I don’t think the post title is inaccurate. He did say that Biden gave him Covid. He just was just lying.

The exact quote from the video at 50 seconds was “Has anyone ever got clapped up from POTUS? Maybe I’m the first.” He doesn’t say “Maybe I will be the first” or “Maybe I would be the first”. He says “I’m” which means I am. “Maybe I’m the first” means that it happened and maybe it hasn’t happened before.

About 3 hours after I made my post, he tweets that it was a joke. I don’t believe that. I think he was lying for popularity. I think he meant to deceive people.

Or it could have been that he was telling the truth before and now he’s lying to say that it was a joke because he realized it makes Biden look bad. Either way, he did say it in the video.

So - if Biden was contagious on Friday, but only tested positive on Wednesday, he’s infected a whole bunch of people in the meantime. Including all of those close advisers who’ve been telling him not to drop out.

In 1503, Pope Alexander VI and Cesare Borgia both came down with malaria at the same time. The pope died, but because his son was bedridden, he was unable to control the conclave that followed. A placeholder pope, also deathly ill, was elected, but a few weeks later Pope Julius II, bitter enemy of the Borgia family, took power. The Borgias were finished.
