Due to a medical enigma that is awaiting treatment, I am currently experiencing brain fog that is preventing me from focusing well. I’ve had to DNF multiple books now. I need something that is compelling and moves quickly. No slow-burn for me right now. Any suggestions?
Have you considered Discworld? Light comedy might work where complex prose hasn’t
The Vagrant. Fast paced fantasy pseudo post-apocalypse involving a mute knight protagonist and a baby. Fascinating book, very enjoyable.
I’d also recommend the Licanius Trilogy, it’s utterly brilliant.
Might want to hold off with Licanius until you’re in a better place mentally though. It’s well paced but has a lot of characters and a ton of interweaving connected plot points that involve both magic and time travel.
One that grabbed me right from the beginning was The Breach by Patrick Lee
The King Killer Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss. Please note that the series is not (and may never be) complete. Also, the main character is very… perfect. But, the books will eat up an entire weekend. It’s one of those where I finished the first basically without stopping, and then ran to Barnes and Noble to get the second book.
I’ll suggest you what another user here on Lemmy suggested to me: Replay by Ken Grimwood. Topic is re-living life, there is a love story involved, relatively short and easily written but good - you won’t need much brain to keep track of what’s up but it is still a quality read.
I just finished If It Bleeds by Stephen King. It got my heart pumping at certain points.
