If the game is well done, engine doesn’t matter so much. LISA for example, was made in RPGMaker, as was To the Moon. Both were well loved. Incrementals might be a smidge different, but I feel like the argument still applies.
That’s a good point, rpg maker does often fall into the “you can recognize a game was made in it” definition, especially if they use any of the stock assets, but much less so than you can immediately tell if a game was made in TMT, for example.
