If I went around, claiming I was an emperor, cuz some moistened bint lobbed a scimitar at me, they’d put me away!

Oooh, now we see the violence inherent in the system!

edit: I thought this line and this exchange was funny back when I was a religious, white, male teenager in a conservative part of the US. Now that I’ve grown up and seen enough injustice and evidence to become an anti-theist socialist living in a different (but still conservative) part of the US, it hits a little too close to home to be truly funny.

      Right?
Watching it “live” yesterday my jaw just dropped, the kid before did the expected “yeah, I love the royals” and Harry Hill made a joke about maybe not wanting to go on holiday with some of them which I thought was already quite risque for a kids show, but then Ilhām comes out with that and it absolutely made my day. I have a feeling (and hope!) that’s not the last we hear of her…

For as in absolute governments the King is law, so in free countries the law ought to be king; and there ought to be no other. But lest any ill use should afterwards arise, let the Crown at the conclusion of the ceremony be demolished, and scattered among the people whose right it is.

“You wouldn’t want a revolution” spoken like the rich are sacrificing themselves in every indulgence so we don’t have to.

Isn’t this on channel 4 now? Not really surprising considering they do the alter atuve Christmas message and have done since like the 90s.

Ch4 like to pretend to be progressive, and they absolutely do push boundaries more than the other channels, but under the thin veil they’re just another neoliberal mouthpiece. So yeah, while it’s not that surprising that of all the channels it’s on 4, even for them, it’s bolder than they would normally allow.

As I’ve mentioned in other comments, the guy is openly ant-monarchy, his facial expressions aren’t of derision, this is filler on a kids show, not a political interview. If he’d agreed with her the whole thing would have never made it to air.

This is about her, why can’t we keep it that way?

And frankly, even without knowing he was anti-monarchy, those reactions didn’t come off as condescending to me. Read it as surprise, and perhaps a little nervous she’d say something more that’d have to be cut, but not condescending. He’s clearly smiling.

That’s just the character he plays for his comedy, he’s not actually disagreeing with her here. You could consider his facial expression to mean “That’s a controversial opinion to air on a baking show”, but only because if he didn’t ape that response they’d probably not have sent it to air haha.
