I especially appreciate the fact that Robocop had to be edited 10+ times in order to qualify for an R rating from the MPAA, which I learned from the Re-View episode by Red Letter Media. The X rating was then changed to NC-17 in 1990 to decouple it from the use in the pornography industry as a marketing tool as you said.
