As for Christians, there is the sentiment, but mostly when introducing God towards children. When adults talk, it’s much toned down. It’s not the big talking point.
And then of course there are plenty of Gods that never were associated with benevolence. Look into the Hindu or Roman pantheon for examples.
To be fair, I’ve never heard a Jew argue that God is benevolent, but I’m fairly certain that’s only because there are so few Jews in the debate scene.
But I’ve never heard a Muslim or Christian suggest that God is not good or not benevolent. That kind of sentiment would contradict the Bible (and presumably the Quran for as adamant as they are about it). Here are the most explicit examples I could find:
“For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.”
But aside from the word of the Bible, this is what every Christian I’ve ever met has told me. For many of them, like William Lane Craig, it’s one of their biggest arguments in favor of their faith. When I hear Christians pray 9 times out of 10 the vast majority of it is proclaiming and thanking God for his goodness. A lot of them, like Steve Harvey, will even claim it isn’t possible to for us to be good without God.
What Christians have you spoken to who wouldn’t enthusiastically claim that God is good? Can you link me any examples?
Who’s to say they have morals. Or are an entity. Or have anything to do with us or earth or the solar system or the galaxy or etc. Or care. Or are knowable. Or exist at all. If they exist and are knowable, then the question immediately turns to how do they exist, what is the new collective unknown.
IMO unknowable is unknowable and I’m dead in 50 years. Better to spend it doing things I want to be doing like shitposting about the number 42 and calling it a day.
