Article I saw thanks to a repost from Nima .
Shitting on Red Scare is something I’m always here for. I think the core is this:
Maybe there’s a kind of gravity to the slide, the black hole of fascism sucking toward it all the loose particles of those whose commitments were never complex or whose convictions were snapped by despair. And the accusation that arises with almost every left-to-right slider, that they’re sell-outs, just doing it for the money? Yes, some are. Yes, and—because even when it starts that way, the transaction is transformational.
I’m so tired of these “you’ve changed, man” articles. I’ve been following Matt Taibbi and Glenn Greenwald for over 20 years, and their politics haven’t changed. They are and have always been libs with a focus on civil liberties.
The pundits didn’t expect Taibbi & Greenwald to continue criticizing power after G. W. Bush left office. They mistakenly thought that Greenwald & Taibbi were hacks like they were.
I can’t stand this article. It’s basically “scratch a liberal and a fascist bleeds.” Plus the fact that it’s impossible to make money as a journalist without being either a liberal or a fascist, both of which are on the right. The intensifying contradictions of capitalism are pushing many people to the right as we speak, as it becomes necessary for them to adopt increasingly violent and ridiculous methods to protect their ill-gotten gains.
