Are you on iOS? I thought the iOS UI was well, looked what I assume iOS stuff looks like. The Android UI just seemed messy.
Android, I don’t personally find it messy, it makes sense to me, but then the first thing I did was go through and customize everything to my liking.

I know! It’s stupid!!! I went from a s7 to a s20 ultra and was pissed it didn’t have it. Completely destroyed it doing construction, and now have the s23 ultra and I’m still mad about it.
Well that might be part of your problem. Don’t buy a phone that’s missing major functionality
I desperately wish for the Fairphone 5 to have a 3.5 mm jack, but my next phone is going to be the FP5 anyway, because they did all the other things which I care for right or at least better than the competitors.
