Hey, I want to run an Ethernet cable through my apartment (not in my walls, but along my walls) but once the cable arrives at the door to my room idk what I should do to get it through, I have very modern doors without any open spaces where a cable might fit through, I’d appreciate any advice/help
You can try powerline adapters, MOCA adapters if you have coaxial cables running between rooms, flat Ethernet cables exist and might be easiest. I’m assuming you’re ruling out WiFi for some reason.
Leave your doors open forever
Drill holes and patch them when you move
Use portals
WiFi
Drill a hole through the wall next to the door frame
I don’t have enough space for that sadly…
I got nothing as far as what someone professional might do, but it really isn’t that hard to drill small holes and patch them later. Drilling is easy, and patching is simple, but takes a little planning and paint matching.
The only problem with that is if whatever management company does an inspection. If that’s a risk, you’d be way better off going through a wall where you can hide things better.
It really depends on what the layout is like, though. If there’s nowhere you can run the cable to get to a wall without having to go through a door, you’re kinda fucked and would need something more specialized.
Like, there are those things that let you route data through power outlets, though I can’t imagine that’s worth it.
You’ll have to penetrate somewhere if you can’t go under the door. You might have to just have an access point at the end of your hallway and connect wirelessly from there.
Are you suggesting I add a repeater in front of my door und use WiFi for my PC?
A repeater takes the wifi you have and blasts it louder so it can go farther. An access point is an entry point into the wired network. So, you could have wired as far as you can practically take it and then make the final hop wirelessly.
