what else can i make that is similar to doilies but people might want? I could start randomly throwing them at people?
i like doilies because they are portable and each row is usually different. maybe i should try crochet squares?
Coasters are also great. My girlfriend made an ungodly number of cat butt coasters (you’ll see if you Google it) from cotton and they were a huge hit. I still use mine on my nightstand every single night.
Try snowflakes! They’re like little doilies. I’m trying to make a sizeable stash of them and tie them to xmas presents this winter. Hopefully they will get hung on the recipients’ trees. I make mine in all colors.
Sew them together into string produce bags? Like for when you buy fruit and veg at the market.
I might actually do this myself now I think about it, it sounds hella cute.
I’m commenting so late, my apologies for only recently finding this community, but mortar board (aka graduation cap) covers are a great way to gift doilies!
Mandalas! They’re doily like but thicker yarn and lots of color.

Here’s a link to some free patterns. Some of them are done in hoops, some of them are almost blanket sized. You could do them in single colors, complementary colors, contrasting colors… Your imagination is your limit on mandalas!
Thought I’d mention reusable face scrubbies/washcloths, but I’m a big fan of coasters. Round, rectangular, triangular, hexagons… Also, you can do squares or hexes and save them up and connect them sometime when you’re sitting around, watching TV, or taking a break, or whatever.
Or there’s smaller amigurumi options which may be easy to take with you, depending on how big of a bag/project/yarn you choose _
Okay, I love making doilies. I do have a free pattern for a standing angel, but I’ve also made earrings that I love and have never failed to give compliments. Bracelets, anklets and necklaces are a good choice too. I usually just play around with different edging I have found or that are in one of my books.
Potholders are useful - large ones that prevent you from getting burned - and instead of traditional doilies have you thought about brightly colored table runners or placemats? I make loads of those and they’re always a hit.
My family actually use colorful coasters I made with cotton yarn. You can do just little squares, granny squares, circles, etc.
Piggybacking on this, trivets made of cotton are nice. Make sure it’s a natural thread so it doesn’t melt if you place anything hot on it.
