It’s also been fascinating to see people siding with her outside of the owner class.
Only the people she owns, right?
I am a little surprised he is suing though, he sounded more bemused than upset at the time and I thought it would be something they’d just put behind them after the backflip and investigation from the MSO.
Gillham said at the time that he was “grateful” the incident had “put the plight of Palestinian journalists in the spotlight” (source). So I think it’s possible he’s using the opportunity of legal action to generate publicity for the issue.
The potential chilling effect that the MSO’s actions could have on artists less able to defend themselves also makes it worth pursuing.
No worries!
Also, the location for this Sunday’s rally has changed (negotiated with police this afternoon). It will now be at Hyde Park (still 1pm Sunday).
Where do you get that info? I’m trying to find but searching online just gives me zionist news like abc and so on.
Most Australian Palestine activist groups seem to use Instagram as their main channel for announcements.
Here’s the Instagram account for Palestine Action Group Sydney which has details for their upcoming events: https://www.instagram.com/palestineactiongroup/
Many events are aggregated on the APAN (Australian Palestine Advocacy Network) website, but many are also left off it: https://apan.org.au/events
The APAN site also has a list of local groups, but again I’d caution that it’s not a complete list: https://apan.org.au/local-groups/
I imagine mods don’t allow support for protests, even though I thought lemmy would be the ideal place to post about this.
I don’t think this is true of the mods on this instance, but they might not want it in certain communities. Probably the individual city comms (e.g. !sydney@aussie.zone ) are the best place for posting about upcoming rallies, or maybe !australianpolitics@aussie.zone ? So long as it’s not an overwhelming amount of posts that’s drowning out everything else I wouldn’t expect the mods to have a problem with it.
I thought of making a topic about it but i fear i might just get banned, since my previous post against military wasn’t exactly well received.
People responded strongly in the comments there, but from what I’ve seen I doubt the mods/admins thought you were breaking any rules or doing anything bannable.
You can probably just message the mods and ask, they don’t bite 🙂
Can we get some more informative titles? 🙃
Such bullshit, the cops can fuck right off.
Also, all the media outlets I’ve seen are reporting the event on the 7th as a “rally” or “protest”, when it’s a candlelit vigil. You can argue that it makes no difference from a public safety perspective, but for many people it would colour their perception of the event. Why haven’t the media mentioned it in their reporting? This headline doesn’t even mention the rally on the 6th, which is the main rally and march.
I wish anyone at the ABC had the guts to publish a headline as accurate as that.
I would say ‘mods won’t like it’, but the sidebar for this comm doesn’t actually have any rules so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It’s because we’ve hitched our wagon to the U.S. and we’re not allowed to say or do anything that’ll piss them off. It’ll only get worse with AUKUS, and arguably that’s the point of it - to lock us in to dependence and obedience to the U.S.
Labor and the Coalition have had a stronger response to this handful of flags and posters than they have to Israel killing 20,000+ kids.
Sub to Schwartz media if you’ve got the dosh btw. One of the few Aussie media orgs that still does real maintstream journalism.
The owners of Schwartz Media are zionists and it has been under boycott by Palestine activists for a while.
It’s on a list here: https://palestinetoolkit.org/hold-institutions-accountable/media-and-arts/#boycott-schwartz-media
This article also gives some background: https://www.crikey.com.au/2023/04/24/statements-from-the-soul-zionism-indigenous-sovereignty/
The designation is particularly ridiculous considering it was the US that ran a campaign of terrorism against Cuba: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Mongoose
I assume you mean the approvals, not the protestors
This would do the opposite of calming tensions…
I’m wondering where on earth he’s getting the “$70,000 loss” figure from. House prices in Sydney are not down from 2017…
You need it to not be cloudy, for starters 😆
But even if it’s not cloudy, light pollution can also be an issue, so it might help to head further out of the city (see: https://darksitefinder.com/map/?i=/%234/-37.84/144.94)
Basically, if you can’t see the stars, you can’t see the aurora.
The only equipment that can help you ‘see’ it better would be taking a long exposure with a camera.
EDIT: Apparently you’re going to want to see some red on the map here: https://seetheaurora.com/live-data
