The tragedy here is that Israel says in response to the 7/10 that all Gazans are guilty, they all deserve to die. That is not acceptable, that is called collective punishment. And Maledives are justifying Israels approach by doing the same. Now Israel can say:

…and what is worst - in this case they have a point! This exactly what we don’t need right now. They could have just banned the settlers, or they could have just banned those several settlers Biden has banned and that would be perfectly fine. This is clumsy at best - no - It’s just tragically stupid. It’s costing us time that Gazans don’t have.

I would like to point out that for some time I’ve felt bad for also wrongly accusing somebody without reading it all ironically also in regard to the Gaza conflict, but you are so much worse than I am.

South Korea or Brazil also doesn’t have regular citizens? How about Switzerland? List of 85 countries that had mandatory military services in 2023.

There were economic sanctions, there was a huge wave of divestment, but all that was pointed at the institutions of the state - not at its citizens ( like this unfortunate decision of Maledives).

Edit: how much sense would it make blocking black citizens of SA from visiting your country -simply because they live under apartheid?

That is exactly the point - I don’t think one can use terms like “majority” and “assume” to justify collective punishment, because that is exactly what the Israelis are doing right now.(But I am obviously wrong )

This is ubelievably dumb. Israel is not even a democracy. Yes, they may have some democratic laws, but they are also 70+ years under the state of emergency. There isn’t free press. Israelis are getting locked up for protesting for peace, for refusing to fight in a apartheid war, even for liking facebook comments supporting Palestine. Aplying collective punishment / collective responsibility under such circumstances (as generally under any circumstances) not only doesn’t support the plight of palestinian refugees, it goes against it!

I understand their (Maledives) motivation, but this is not the way. You can’t punish all Palestinians for the crimes of the few, nor can you punish all Israelies for the crimes of the many.

T480 (not sure about T580) is a strange beast regarding storage implemantation. I’ve seen SATA models (worse, slower) and NVMe models (better, rarer?, faster). I own the SATA one and I believe that good part of the performance difference I see between it and a T14 Gen 2 (running same setup and same tasks ) is on account of the faster storage. Among T14 devices NVMe is I believe standard.

I’ve considered that - but I think that would be way to complex and unpractical. Imagine that you are a tourist and you are asked to chose a correct “tram” in a limited time and while the tram is moving (walking isn’t easy + you have to drag your luggage along ). Or imagine that each half of the passengers of each “independent module” decide to change the tram utilizing that one single door - having to walk along the tram, avoid all the other passengers… Or imagine somebody is trying to change the tram with a child carriage. Or imagine someone trying to change the tram in a wheelchair or with a walking aid. And since this is being done on the move, the driver can’t just wait another 30 seconds until most are seated - because the trams would be already disconnected again by then…

Using only two doors for onboarding / offboarding of 140 people is a bit on the edge anyway. Here in Prague current Skoda 52T uses 5 sets of (visually) much wider doors to on/off cca 240 passengers, previous Skoda 13T used 4.5 doors (one door had only single wing) to on/off cca 280 passangers - and that was already too few doors and had to be re-designed (whole inside had to be re-done, capacity was reduced). The standard Tatra T3 - the one from profile picture of this sub - had 3 doors per 110 passengers - ( but admit-ably there were stairs).

It should be noted that it is unlikely that any “practicality constrains” were given to the participants of the design competition. They just wanted something futuristic - and IMO succeeded.

Interestingly, they are supposed to be connecting while moving:
