Yes it is. However socialism =/= communism. Awful people have just done a really good job of conflating the two, and treating it as a bad thing. Democratic socialism is a thing, and there was a golden era in the 70s-90s in most other western countries where it was supported by major political parties. These days, as neoliberalism has taken over the world, political parties have tried to walk back these systems. However, they enjoy far too much popular support to be dismantled that easily. Honestly, it’s incredibly naive to think that America’s issues started with Reagan. The McCarthy witch hunts against communism happened in the 1950s. They targeted education institutions, as well as people that believed in democratic socialism. It stopped a generation from coming up through college and having those values instilled. It was that generation that passed reforms like universal healthcare in other western countries. Reagan was just a product of that system, he wasn’t the root cause.

There are ways to use “logic” that are helpful in my opinion. Back in the day, I made two lists. One with all the reasons that I felt like a trans woman and one with all the reasons I felt cis. The first list was much, much longer.
