kleptoplasty
I like how it’s appropriate to call it “-plasty” twice (first in the referring to chloroplasts sense, and then again in the plastic surgery sense).
Anxiety and concern are not the same thing.
Yeah, I know. And the article trying to gaslight us into mistaking the latter as the former is part of the problem!
On the contrary: they want you to think it’s suspicious because casting doubt on the election’s integrity is their goal. They want to manufacture justification for Trump’s lawsuits and coup attempts.
More specifically, it’s to delay the count past the deadline for certification, so that they can throw the disputed votes out, throw the whole state’s votes out, prevent either candidate from passing the EC threshold and force a contingent election, etc.
This is terrible advice. Paying anything you can up front saves you several times over in the long run.
Usually, yes, but it’s situational.
For example, I bought my house in 2009 during the depths of the Great Recession, with no down payment, and got a screaming deal. If I had decided to wait a few years to save up for a down payment, I would’ve been 500% screwed.
(That “500%” isn’t hyperbole, by the way: that’s how much more I would’ve had to spend to buy my house now instead of back then! Actually, I’d have been even more screwed than that, considering that I’d be paying ever-increasing rent the whole time, too.)
You’re not wrong. Still, if somebody could’ve been bothered to voice their objection to it I could’ve clarified that I meant that Democrats and Republicans are both right-wing only in the same sense that two and 6 million are both positive numbers, not that I was trying to make some bad-faith “both sides” argument. But I didn’t even get one chance to explain myself – no warning, no comment removal without ban, nothing – and that’s not okay.
Banning is a thing that should only happen after a user demonstrates a pattern of bad-faith; not based on a single questionable comment (let alone one that’s only questionable because the mod misunderstood it).
Concern is justified. Frankly, articles like this one piss me off: everyone ought to keep their concern, and use it to motivate them into action. It’s fucking absurd that we’re here talking about “managing stress” and not “organizing counter-protests to Trump’s impending next coup attempt.” You want to make yourself useful, Arstechnica writer? Fucking tell us about that!
Hi, Georgian here. Trust me, nobody wants to live in the ass-end of Cherokee County, so far north it’s only barely in Metro Atlanta, but not far enough north to have decent mountain scenery or anything. Frankly, I’m appalled at how overpriced it was at $200K four years ago, let alone now.
That’s a fair argument. It’s very circumstantial and not enough to convince me, though, especially if the Post was liberal before he bought it and it simply remained so through his inaction (which I believe to be the case – correct me if I’m wrong!). The rebuttal to “he must be liberal: he owns a liberal newspaper” is “yeah, but the first time he intervened in it, it was to force it to be more conservative.”
What he’s saying is that a lot of the forces against recreational legalization are also against medical legalization, and moreover that a lot of the “moral crusade” against it is actually just cynical anti-competitive business tactics.
Or, [sigh], maybe that’s just what I’m reading into it and he had no deeper point to make.
My cursory search suggested that even really nice (internal-combustion) semis top out around $200K. I have no idea what a reasonable price for a “service and transporting contract” would be, but “more than the truck itself” still seems like a lot.
If the situation were reversed and my wife “agreed to disagree” by supporting a fascist, I freely admit that it would cause me to have serious doubts about our relationship.
That isn’t to say the MAGA husbands’ views are justified – quite the opposite! It’s to say that moral relativism is bullshit and being judged for supporting fascism is not equivalent to being judged for opposing it.
I have no idea what’s going on this thread. I get the Star Trek half, obviously, but I have no clue what the other references are.
Each truck is $0.5M? That seems high.
Our issues are billionaires and trillion dollar companies not paying their taxes.
Our issues with billionaires and trillion dollar companies go way beyond taxes. They are also doing long-term damage to the US’ economic power by hollowing out the middle class, using regulatory capture to suppress disruptive startups/small businesses, increasing corruption, etc.
You must not have been paying attention to the recent Supreme Court rulings.
They have to train people to go after FEMA with rifles in little pickup-truck gangs, and hide in the hills instead of take the relocation money.
And of course, it also bites them in the ass because keeping western NC wrecked makes it harder for his supporters to vote.
Do you? Because the first half of your misquote was exactly the opposite of what I actually said.
INB4 Elon “$1M/day bribes” Musk screams on Xitter about how this is election interference.
