  • Spent the last month preparing for this obvious L with comrades and we are going to make these libs do stuff weather they like it or not

i wonder how many else did. it was only a fear in the back of my head until my ex-maga father called me after the debate to vent about how kamala as being so rude/disrespectful/aggressive/mean/etc. to trump and asked “why can’t she just be nice”. then seeing all the liberals on the lemmyverse champion her performance the next day with shallow critiques made me aware of the disconnected between harris supporters and reality.

i still only gave it a 49% chance of it happening in my mind and i’m kicking myself for falling into the same trap i did with bernie in 2020 & 2016 and clinton in 1996.

  • i’ve also been banned for sharing controversial opinions despite being as respectful as possible and i think that’s to be expected if you try to share dissenting perspectives in instances that are unfriendly to it in the tribal environment that defines all social media today.

american politics has morphed into intense tribalism as evidenced by successful efforts like republicans labeling their old guard as rino’s in their rightward shift and democrats demonizing their leftists as tankies in their own similar rightward shift; both of these are one of many examples that all serve to drown out all rational discourse and have led us to our current situation in both the election and the lemmyverse.

i’ve had to switch social media platforms since before it was called social media and doing it so many times over the decades has taught me the hard way not to become so entrenched in any of them that it becomes “painful to leave”; doing so turns that punishment into a reflection of the punisher’s character.

there’s little point in trying to be part of a close minded fold if you don’t naturally fit in; no matter how much of an overwhelming majority it is; and trying to do so will only help make their punishment worse for you if you can’t make it work on the short leash that they will put on you.

you have alternatives on the lemmyverse and they’re self sustaining due to that overwhelming majority’s actions. they can work for you if you don’t want to be on a lemmy leash; but only if you can accept that their own tribalism is born out of experiences like the one you’re having right now and use your own experiences to try to understand where they’re coming from and what they’re trying to share. you will fail many times if you do and they will hammer you on it; but they have their own experiences with leashes and punishments like yours and that makes them more likely to know how to turn something like a ban into a chance to learn.

  • free penguin.

that’s why i asked. the other clans have people(?) that match with our reality; but the penguins don’t and only some of them seem to be mages and some are not.

apologies if this gets answered later on the series; i just barely started and these illustrations haunt me so much sometimes that it forces me to digest it in bite sized chunks.

  • From the outside looking it it does appear that way but it seems so…un-American.

it’s at our core and since our founding; things like the electoral college (the same one that’s helping trump win) were implemented to give the few wealthy people a way of preventing the masses of poor people from obtaining meaningful political representation. at the time of its inception, the few wealthy were slave owners and the masses of the poor were mostly immigrants with relatively strong abolitionist & populist views for the time.

I’ve spent a decent bit of time over there over the course of my life (north of 6 months total, mostly up and down both coasts) and I’m genuinely very fond of the US and its people and that has given me this internal sense of what “un-American” is if that isn’t a ludicrous statement.

i think it’s common if you don’t study the origin of this country deeply enough and i also think we all can be forgiven for not doing so since taking that action requires overcoming many obstacles designed to prevent you from doing so; also it’s depressing af and on too many levels.
