Do you really not understand how cause and effect work? Is that the problem? How in the name of fuck would you withholding your vote in November in any way affect the DNC’s decision in August? Do you believe that posting your ultimatum on lemmy will move the needle in the minds of the convention-goers??

I do want him to be replaced, actually. I think it’s ludicrous that he decided to run again, and that the party is going along with it. But withholding my vote in the general election when they inevitably line up behind him as a way of showing my dissatisfaction with their decision would be the dumbest thing I could possibly do.

You said it yourself: Republicans in power very well could be disastrous for you. The solution, then, is to vote blue, regardless of who they pick. Your plan to not vote in protest is sheer lunacy.

That’s probably the dumbest thing you’ve said so far in this thread. Of course most people want someone to replace Biden. There are even polls about this. People within the party itself want someone to replace him. But you’re advocating withholding your vote AFTER Biden decides to not leave office. That’s not going to force him to do a thing. It’s like the right wingers buying the product they’re trying to boycott so they can destroy it.

There is no mechanism by which you can force Biden to quit the race before the vote. Abstaining from voting after he decides to not quit will not harm Biden. Biden’s already said that he’ll be ok if he just “tries his best”. What you’ll actually be doing is harming literally everybody else around you because of your stupid, short sighted, impotent rage.

To be fair, someone is not required to actually believe something to type that thing. For example, I’d imagine that the advertisers for Subway don’t actually believe that Subway makes the best, freshest sandwiches around.

A bit torn on this, tbh. 'Cause on the one hand, good - fuck that guy. He’s trash and he deserves to be thrown out for being trash. But on the other hand, as far as I’m aware, none of those priests that fucked children were excommunicated. So according to the head of the catholic church, slagging off the pope is worse than fucking children? Seems like a weird set of priorities.

It’d be wasted breath, really. Trump will never step down, because he’s trying to remain out of prison. If he loses, then there goes any chance he had at pardoning himself for his numerous crimes. So he’s not only the far and away favorite Republican candidate, but he’s also highly motivated to stay in the race for personal reasons. No appeal to his sense of patriotism will work to get him to step down because he has no patriotism. He’s in it for himself and himself only.

Biden, on the other hand, is just the default Democrat guy because he’s the incumbent, and the party figured that’d be enough to win, and so haven’t been trying very hard. And that has everybody terrified, because if he loses, then we get another 4 years of Trump, and probably never get to vote again. Basically, people are calling for Biden to step down because the stakes are way too high to fuck around.

So one of the things that the majority said was that Trump’s pressuring of the justice department to “investigate” nonexistent voter fraud in several states by threatening to sack the acting attorney general if he didn’t was completely within his sphere of official duties, and thus immune from prosecution:

So, basically, the president can attempt to force the justice department to conduct sham investigations pretty much whenever he wants, and he’s completely immune from prosecution for doing so. So I say Biden should just order the justice department to go after literally everybody associated with Trump. Why not? It’s not like the courts could do anything about it now that the supreme court has issued this asinine ruling.

Humans are incredible at forgetting, which is why people often look forward to having a second or third child despite living through the nightmare you’re describing. In a couple of years, if you’re feeling like you want to have another one, at least now you can go back through your old posts and regain a little bit of the perspective you’ve managed to forget so you can go into the second time around with your eyes wide open.
