I think that is the plan.

“Repo Man” (1984) and “Repo! The Genetic Opera” (2008) are two very different movies. Both highly recommend though.

Sadly, there have been Nazi and white supremacist rallies all over the country, often and every year for quite some time. It’s really sad, but that’s the reality.

But I think is more notable recently, and more disturbing, is that they’re getting more press and less pushback from the media rather than being ostracized and ignored as they have been in the past.

So… don’t engage with them then. You don’t have to reply. They don’t have to either. You’re both fanning the flames of arguments you both claim you don’t want to have.

This is what surprises me. His show, even in the early days, was never worth sticking around for. Rogan tried to be an actor long ago, had a whiff of success and then it fizzled out because he sucks. Then he tried to be a comedian, and that also had a whiff of success but fizzled out because he sucks. So he tried being a reality show host, got some traction, then failed out of that as well. His podcast is just his last attempt to be relevant and famous. And because he failed at the others he’s desperate enough for attention to do this kind of content with bigots and science deniers. He’s opportunistic trash.

This 100%. I use YouTube Music and have a premium subscription and it’s fantastic. Even without premium it’s still great.

I left that garbage heap many years ago. Rogan’s show is just one of the pieces of garbage in the pile there.

It would still be “I’m just asking questions” about whether or not the moon landing happened and if lizard people exist.

But “shouldn’t stop them from here” and “self-moderate” are in conflict with one another. What is self-moderation if an entire instance is troll farm, or hate group? Should that self-moderation not include defedding as an option?
If I have a party in my house and a bunch of rowdy people show up, I have a series of escalating options to stop the problem ranging from asking one of them to stop, to kicking the entire group out of my house and never letting them come back. Defedding is the last of those, and I see no reason why it shouldn’t be an option when other methods are not working.

Exactly. When TendieMaster69 says “self-moderate” I think defedding should 100% be a part of that self-moderation toolkit. That’s all defedding is - an instance saying “nope, we’re done with your b.s.” I don’t see why that should be off the table.

I’m 48. I was dating five years ago, and now I’m married to a woman who doesn’t play games at all. So I’ll say this: when a date says “oh dear” or some such when you say you play games, that’s a red flag. Even if they don’t personally play, it’s pretty shitty for a partner (or potential partner) to try to make you feel bad about about your hobbies. Absolutely fuck that noise. They don’t have to like the same things, but it’s a whole other situation for them to tell you it’s dumb or wrong for you to like what you like. That goes double when you have kids and you play with them.

I play games, I draw, and I play D&D. Hell, I just bought a Steamdeck and am goingto build an arcade cabinet with my stepson. My wife does none of that, and it’s super important to me that I not be shamed about my hobbies. I would never shame her about hers.

There is no age cutoff. The idea that fun things are childish is a stupid concept pushed by boring people on the rest of us because they don’t know how to have fun anymore.

So what you’re suggesting works in theory, but not in practice. There are times when simply ignoring bad actors or voting them down within a community is not enough to stop them from misbehaving. Try ostracizing a botnet. Or nicely asking trolls to stop posting racist memes. It won’t work.

Of course they can be disabled. But sites are not all built the same way, so there isn’t one silver bullet we can tell you about to disable them everywhere. On mobile it’s even more difficult because access to browser plugins is more limited, along with developer features within the browser.

I also use FF on Android, and until recently was also using Reddit. There isn’t a good way to remove that bar.

People sure like to dunk on PHP. I’ll take whatever flak for this, but this is the kind of meme a .NET fanboy or Ruby on Rails bro would make when they haven’t touched any languages other then their prescious, and don’t know wtf they’re talking about.

PHP, after all these years, is STILL running 78% of all sites. That’s not because it’s garbage or the worst. It’s solid, reliable, mature and very well documented. And I say this as someone who has gladly moved to Python, but also work in in others.

He can stuff the votes with bots and get what he wants. Don’t think for a second that he’ll let people like you and I succeed at voting out mods who are on his side.
