  • As others have said, DS9, Lower Decks, TNG, Voyager, are all great choices. Strange New Worlds isn’t bad either.

Now some potential dealbreakers: Lower Decks is a cartoon and heavily references other shows (but does explain most of those references), TNG is very libbed up and side-steps a lot of the moral questions Startrek is known for, Voy solves those questions with warcrimes, SNW tries to be too inoffensive and is very much directed at fans. I can’t think of anything bad to say about DS9.

  • First two years of Obama’s first term the dems had 60 in the senate and a majority in the house. Instead of removing the filibuster and doing what people voted for them to do, the dems threw up their hands and said “Joe Lieberman won’t let us give you free healthcare” and instead we got Obamacare. They then proceeded to lose the house and senate because that’s what happens when you betray your base.

Then in 2020, the same thing played out, instead of whipping the vote and taking Sinema off committee assignments and/or prosecuting Manchin’s family for corruption unless they played ball, the dems chose to throw their hands up and said “we’re powerless!”

When they couldn’t use that excuse due to must-pass bills like budget reconciliation, they blamed the Senate Parliamentarian. Who they appointed. When the Senate Parliamentarian wouldn’t do what Bush wanted, they replaced them with someone who would.

The dems aren’t powerless, but there’s a conflict between the people who vote dem and the corporations who fund them so pretending they are allows them to have their cake and eat it too.

  • The dems haven’t been counter-messaging against the republicans bullshit. In 2022, the dem message was “fund the police”, and now they’re campaigning on shutting the border down and building a wall.

You can’t outflank the republicans from the right. People who like that shit are going to vote republican anyways. Dems can promise to transfer every school’s budget to the police, and republicans will still get those voters when they promise to double it.

Every time the dems talk about how tough they’ll be on crime, they’re admitting that the essential republican stance is better than their own.

  • West Wing has done irreparable brain damage to libs across the country. It’s why Obama’s advisors told him to give republicans half the discretionary budget when they had a supermajority and didn’t need a single republican vote, compromised/means tested every bill he promoted, and went with the bloodiest possible option in every foreign policy decision. In an episode of West Wing, all that compromise and appealing the the better nature of the opposition would reward you. In reality, it just demotivates your base and lets the opposition demand even more.
