I’ve used android at various times. Most recently around 3 years ago. I probably won’t switch back unless there is some really compelling hardware I just can’t resist.

Some reasons I prefer iPhone is that iMessage was just a better experience for messaging than SMS and the fragmented support that RCS had back when I was an android user.

iOS is also consistent experience across devices rather than having a different flavor with different launchers and bloat per manufacturer. Android is nice in that you can extend your experience by sideloading apps but eventually the more you add, the more chances you have of them randomly crashing and detracting from the experience

Finally I am locked in to the hardware ecosystem, android/Google do have their own alternatives to this but they aren’t as nice as apple’s. AirPods just work. AppleTV doesn’t have ads unlike google tv. Your iCloud files, photos, messages etc. just sync to your Mac without thinking.

If I did get a new android device I’d probably be a pixel but I just don’t trust google. And I don’t trust them to support a device or service and keep it out of the killedbygoogle graveyard

This is true, but it’s easier and faster to parse plain English and so if I don’t adequately comment my code the first time. I will be commenting it when I have to return to it for whatever reason. Honestly the second round of commenting is more verbose and clearer than the function x does y style of comments I tend to make when coding the first time

Our sports culture in the US is unlike any other country in the world and so comparing it to other countries is a pointless endeavor.

In fact pretty much all schools in the US all the way down to the smallest college field sports teams because it’s essential in advertising and marketing the school and recruiting students (either by recruiting students who are familiar with and fans of the sports team and the larger schools or by recruiting students who still want to compete in organized sports for the smaller schools)

Sports coaches are often compensated the most and athletes often get the most valuable scholarships because they generate the most marketing and advertising value and in cases of the highest level teams, make TV revenue back for the university.

If you want to put your complaints somewhere, complain about how public universities have to compete with each other for lucrative out of state and international students to meet their budgets because they are underfunded from the government.

Have you considered downloading some color by number PDFs? (Such as from here) and then using the markup features and the Apple Pencil to color them in yourself? You have to stay inside the lines of course as there isn’t an app backing it but might be the closest analogue to actually coloring for relaxation.

Don’t the other companies still have to license or at least pay royalties to Sony to make BD-R or that only for commercial discs?

I’ll just never get over the fact that young adults are now waxing nostalgic about things that happened when I was a young adult.

The RPG mechanics didn’t ruin the genre although I did prefer the mechanics of earlier CoDs where in multiplayer everything is unlocked and you just use whatever you want.

What ruined the genre was the free-to-play style monetization and season pass paid update model.

Black Ops 2 was the first CoD to have paid skins, but we would have no idea how bad things would become. By the time Fortnite came along the multiplayer FPS genre was already long ruined

I really don’t think large brands like Apple have that many paid shills. Apple has a large fan base and good marketing. People that like their devices just naturally repeat the marketing line because they don’t really know why they like the devices, Apple marketing just told them that is why it is good. And fanatics will spend mental energy defending them for no good reason

Lemmy and the fediverse have sizable Apple communities and Apple is definitely not paying anyone to shill here

If it’s $5 and some random assortments of letters for a brand name you might as well just light your money on fire whether you order from temu or amazon or Walmart for that matter

Someone else posted this report in this thread which does a good job of the deceptive practices and API calls the app uses to trick the user into giving permissions up willingly and otherwise collect data it shouldn’t.

It states that it’s somehow breaking the permissions sandbox by dynamically recompiling code after the app is opened. Unless there is some undisclosed exploit that it’s using to break the sandbox, it’s outside most people’s understanding of how these platforms work

It’s not really documented anywhere officially. I’ve found the knowledge over the years from searching the ubnt forums. But I stopped using unifi equipment a few years ago for similar reasons.

This forum thread is probably the best starting point I can give you but configuring unifi APs via ssh for any reason other than maybe a botched IP configuration is a bad idea

You can configure them independently of a controller by ssh but the config will be lost on a reboot or when the device next polls the controller

Edit: and apparently someone else has said you can use the app to configure them without a controller at all

The best advice is to be on communities on as many servers as possible. You can’t really obtain “political neutrality” heavy-handed-ly but in aggregate by getting as many viewpoints as possible it will be neutral in aggregate

In this exhausting phase with one of my 4 year olds where he won’t sit down to eat his supper. Every evening meal is a battle where he refuses to eat for a half hour before he finishes half his plate and can get up finally an hour later

If they can’t get the headset to fit the size and weight of swimming goggles, I don’t think it can get mass adoption

Gabe doesn’t have the wrist strength the strangle anyone. Also he’s too fat, nobody will like him if he’s too fat.

It’s definitely the smaller viewports that give the most trouble, and as I am a stubborn mini phone user, I make sure that my projects are responsive to smaller screen sizes.

The other part is that I’m not a front end dev, so these are just my personal projects and I don’t know all the hacks to really optimize layouts on smaller screen sizes.

I just want another mini phone, it’s nice they are making them lighter but I want something I can use with one hand. Not a brick that’s been sliced slightly thinner. I want another iPhone mini with usb c and better battery life
