I deleted my 14+ year account (after deleting my content) right after the AMA: never going back. Have used RIF for as long as it has been around and it’s going dark June 30. Bridge burned. No regrets.
Day 4 Reddit-free for me (I deleted all my accounts - one of which was 14+ years old - after the AMA … jfc what a catastrophe!) Exploring the Fediverse when the servers will allow me, made chicken cacciatore for dinner (it was awesome) and now just wandering around lemmy.ml because I can. Life is good…
S/he looks just like my mastador! Gorgeous!!!
Lemmykins
I’m about 24 hours into Lemmy and beyond bamboozled so thank you intensely for your ELI5 response: really helped. My key concern is who pays to keep all the lights on?
Username checks out (sorry, couldn’t resist)
Really hoping to see u/wil here shortly … 🖖🏼
Some of us like it?
Joined yesterday after shutting down my 14+ year old Reddit account (mourning has commenced). So far, so good. Will spend time looking around for the next few days but do consider this home now. Jerboa is an easy transition from RIF (unlike others, no complaints on functionality - it does everything I need ATM and I do remember the early days of Reddit: this is so smooth by comparison). Just need more users and more content but that will surely come quickly given u/spez’s decision-making.
Reddit, particularly the AMA and the blackout, have been broadly covered repeatedly over the past week by global media including targeted business media (BBC, The New York Times, Bloomberg, The Japan Times, Reuters, Toronto Star, CBC, Business Insider India, NASDAQ.com, just to name a few). This coverage in traditional media cannot help (1) valuation estimates of Reddit or (2) acceleration of an IPO if either is the goal of u/spez’s current posture toward Apollo, etc. Reddit’s management practices appear a catastrophic mess to the investor community which is the worst possible outcome for u/spez’s longevity as CEO.
