  • Poor research could also be a reason. I just went to Google to search “Alternatives to Reddit” and the only immediate result that I found to mention Lemmy was a report off Android Authority with the headline “Looking for a Reddit Alternative? Lemmy tell you, they currently kinda suck”

So… Not great results off that one. I’m not really sure where they got the line about Tumblr, but I could absolutely see a writer not well researched on the topic making the statement made in the OP article about there not currently being a clear alternative.

  • You’re right - Reddit definitely won’t die from this. But a part of me wonders how quiet it is going to remain there from now on. I just hopped back on to check it out, and I only saw a few quality posts from 3 or 4 subreddits I follow. If the blackouts continue to happen indefinitely, there will be pretty serious impacts to at least some users like me that just make it not worth visiting the site any longer. It’s a shame, but I’m already seeing good content and am more motivated to interact here than I ever really felt on Reddit, so maybe this whole ordeal will be for the best to me. I’ll have to give it a few weeks-months to really know for sure though.
