  • people that judge you for your looks fucking suck

I know what you mean, and you’re correct… but also incorrect. We all make judgements on looks for a reason. If you see me walking towards you with my beige combat trousers and my navy blue bomber jacket and beige baseball cap all with ‘patriot front’ logos on it and a white snood mask, you’re going to make certain assumptions about my character (like I need punching). If I wear a “Pride month by Ratheon” T-shirt you’re going to make assumptions too (that I’m an unbearable lib). These are good working assumptions that allow us to make shortcuts in mental processing, made because they’re often right, we don’t need to get to know a venomous snake’s character to know it shouldn’t be near my toddler. Like it or not clothing is a social signifier and it has meaning in the real world. Now how these shortcuts are used is different, if someone judges you negatively for your skin colour or wearing a female or male coded dress ‘inappropriately’ then you’re correct, they suck.

  • It’s a skill gap the size of an ocean at this point.

There’s a confusion about China. The popular conception is that companies come to China because of low labor cost. I’m not sure what part of China they go to, but the truth is China stopped being the low-labor-cost country many years ago. And that is not the reason to come to China from a supply point of view. The reason is because of the skill, and the quantity of skill in one location and the type of skill it is.

The products we do require really advanced tooling, and the precision that you have to have, the tooling and working with the materials that we do are state of the art. And the tooling skill is very deep here. In the U.S., you could have a meeting of tooling engineers and I’m not sure we could fill the room. In China, you could fill multiple football fields.

  • When I last looked the Moondrop chu 2 were very good at about £20 and very well reviewed, Turthear Hola were about the same price and probably better build if you can find them. Moondrop Aria are also very good, but more money. And at the £75 mark there are the Moondrop Starfield 2 which are excellent. But I’m not an expert! The Chinese iem market moves fast and I haven’t looked for a couple of years so there is probably better stuff out there today.

  • I would recommend them in a heartbeat, but I won’t oversell the Koss KSC75s. In ear headphones at this price point from brands like moondrop slap them and plenty of over ears are better at sensible <£100 mark price points. I also find the KSC75s never last long. The wires are sooo thin they all eventually fail for me after being traveled with for a while. With that said, I keep buying replacement pairs because they are really very good sounding and comfortable too for the price.
