  • Constant upgrades are tricky, since that’s basically content, which most games try to give out slowly to keep you enticed for more. Competitive games won’t give much, so that you won’t outclass other players on an even field.

The Division (2) is a pretty decent one; up until max level you’re just letting numbers go up, and then there’s some specialized builds you can put together that prioritize things like forcing enemy attention, activating abilities more frequently, or triggering combo effects on weapons.

Helldivers 2 has a lot of weapons and different support abilities to unlock.

Have not played it, but Destiny 2 may fit with what you’re looking for.

  • So is no one here in comments calling her a bad candidate? Are you just citing external favorability? The label of “least worst option” came from a commenter, not a nameless poll statistic. I’d question whether that’s really an external reference, and not a personal attack on her character.

To me it wasn’t even close because there was nothing outwardly negative about Kamala. So, I’m looking to identify specific thoughts that lead to that unfavorability.

And, be warned, in the lack of anything else, the thoughts “She’s a woman” and “She’s black” come up as the reason for it; indicating that the derived stance of the person above is “The democratic party should never run with minorities.”

  • I’ve started recognizing when a section of a game feels baller, but it’s 99% because of the soundtrack. They can have the most generic basis for an emotional scene, and then as long as the music nails the mood it could be just blocks on a screen.

Final Fantasy XIV has had awe-inspiring tracks for the finales of each expansion since Shadowbringers; pretty much starting at the final zone through the final dungeon and trial.

Ace Attorney always gets it with its confrontation tracks; it could just be two people arguing in a hallway and it turns the battle of words into the most epic thing.

I’ll also give a shout out to Ori and the Blind Forest / Will of the Wisps. For both of those, it’s not just a few banger tracks for the exciting moments; even the downtime tracks are so memorable.

  • I highly doubt the intent was to always approach ledges, then walk to the edge, then step back, then run forward, EVERY single time you need to make a jump. It breaks the flow of exploration.

Theoretically, you just need enough space. But the game’s coding is incredibly murky about how much space that is. I’ve failed jumps after running forward from the back edge of a block, just because I had landed from somewhere else, and did not then perfectly measure out one full jump-back. Ultimately, it causes plenty of annoyance and makes the controls inconsistent. If you want to read it as “You didn’t correctly backstep at every single jump” then it just means the game is boring.

  • I used Linux Mint 21 first, which didn’t (correctly) support my ancient wi-fi card or graphics driver. I then tried 22, which was much better, but failed to run a number of games, exhibiting a variety of issues not listed on ProtonDB.

I then switched to Bazzite, which ran those same games correctly, but its OS-integrated file explorer was oversimplified far past what Windows does, it failed to install several Linux-native applications, alt-tab behavior was frequently glitchy around games, and often I would come back from sleep mode with bizarre graphical glitches forcing me to restart.

I’m not even highlighting the poor usability, or the stuff I might be able to reconfigure. I’m okay with taking time to tweak my OS how I want it, but not when that’s just a matter of having it work correctly.
