yeah i feel like if you’re going to nominate deafheaven i feel like dream house in 2013 or luna/baby blue in 2015 would be better picks. even focusing on 2019, i think black brick or canary yellow are better picks than honeycomb

i mean to be clear this isn’t my first time listening to any of the albums. but if i have to do a top 13 list:

1. nonagon infinity - the album that got me into gizz. love love love
2. polygondwanaland - groovy polyrhythms, and i really adore crumbling castle
3. murder of the universe - hated this at first but the narration and humour grew on me
4. paper mâché dream balloon - sense ❤
5. flying microtonal banana - sleep drifter and billabong valley for personal favourites
6. i’m in your mind fuzz - the opening suite is so fucking catchy
7. sketches of brunswick east - not really my vibe but i put it on occasionally and have a good time
8. quarters - the river is incredible, the rest is a bit forgettable imo
9. gumboot soup - love hearing the great chain of being, their first foray into the doomy sound of itrn
10. float along - fill your lungs - there’s a bit in head on/pill that just sounds like an alarm going off and i hate it. the title track is gorgeous though, loved seeing it live
11. oddments - other than work this time and hot wax, nothing really stands out
12. 12 bar bruise - cool to hear their early work but not for me
13. eyes like the sky - has all the problems that westerns do re. colonialism and racism

they had an album in 2016 called hardwired to self destruct that was way too long and kind of just… fine? like it’s more metallica. then they had an album last year called 72 seasons that was better but still way too fucking long

2019 seems to be something of an exception? high on fire, between the buried and me, deafheaven, trivium, and underoath is a genuinely interesting lineup compared to this year’s lineup of metallica, disturbed, ghost, slipknot, and spiritbox
