I love how a political party on the side of events such as Charlottesville and Jan 6 gets to now virtue signal about “being against political violence”, with media pretty much staying silent and not calling them out.

Sure, when fascism gets far enough, the only solution against it becomes violence. However, all that accomplishes is taking down specific fascists but not fascism itself as an ideology, and it will eventually return (see: WW2 and modern day politics).

The thing is that the neo-conservatives don’t get what they want - they instead change their stances depending on what the cult-figures want.

For instance, before Trump republicans were open to free-trade, if you were to ask them about it they’d be like “yeah free trade is very good we always supported it”, but after Trump, asking the same question would result in “protectionism is so much better and we always supported it”.

Almost as if they look at the elites for their opinions, rather than forming their own.

I didn’t say anything about him not deserving it - in the past, he did call for violence himself and spread hateful beliefs, which I do think makes him deserving of violence as well (since he did break the social contract, intolerance of intolerant type of deal), but my point is that if he were to die due to an assassination, it would make things worse. Even now I’ve seen my relatives who are brainrot-facebook-conversative types being like “he was shot because he spoke the truth”, and it doesn’t seem to be an uncommon sentiment.

Sadly, it’s not an easy problem to solve.

The problem with taking down Fascism with violence is that you’re just killing the figureheads, not the fascist ideas. Say that the assassination attempt was successful - he’d become a martyr who would strengthen those beliefs in people (they want to take us down because we’re right type of deal), and his legacy would be easily continued by thousands of influential conservative politicians/foundation members.

I feel like what’s more likely is Trump actually winning via election fraud, there’s conservatives and people connected to conservatives getting arrested even to this year for trying to rig the previous 2020 election, and I highly doubt that they won’t try that again. There’s also the recent supreme court decision to make president immune from persecution for “official acts during presidency”, which can be read as setting the stage for Trump’s arrival.

While yes, I don’t doubt that people do care about immigration and that’s why they vote far-right, the point of my original comment was that a lot of this “anti-immigration” sentiment is just an easy scapegoat by the right. It’s something they puff up, blame most issues on then try to get votes by promising to deal with that said issue they pretty much manufactured, while leaving actual issues that they’re going to make worse unaddressed (like low minimum wages, tax cuts for the rich, weakening of workers rights, mass privatization, etc).

Liberals (left doesn’t exist in most of EU still) rarely ever vow to do anything about immigration precisely of how overblown it is, and yeah they do lose votes because of it from people who do end up believing the far-right, the “easy” answer if you will.

And here’s a fun tidbit - most of the voters who vote far-right in European countries (checked Poland and French but undoubtedly there are many more examples) come from rural regions, which are the least affected by immigration.

Immigration is legit just a scapegoat for the right and in reality isn’t that big of an issue. People in France agreed as well, even though NR was only shouting about immigration (literally, it’s unclear what their other policies are apart from the classic right-wing policies of lowering taxes for corporations), and also ranked #1 in polls, immigration came out 8th in the “most important issues” ranking poll.

It’s not 2016 anymore, immigration has decreased significantly since the big flood.

It’s not really surprising - historically, the creation Israel state was helped massively by antisemitists, who wanted to get rid of jews in their own country and having them a place to immigrate to would be the easiest option (the phenomena is often referred to as Zionist antisemitism).

I have a friend in Serbia and apparently it’s just an election stunt. What the proposal from UN aims to do is to just establish a day of remembrance to a genocide that happened, but the ruling party has twisted it into “UN is trying to declare us as a genocidal nation” to garner increased support from the nationalists.

The election itself is a re-run of a previous election, due to the previous election being pretty much rigged by the same ruling party. Simply incredible.
