  • While I will be the first person to admit that I don’t completely understand either, the concept is pretty simple.

Think of a digital recording being something like sheet music. Sheet music is a set of instructions on how to play a song that anyone who knows how to read music can reproduce.

Digital recordings work in a similar fashion. The playback device reads the instructions which include things like frequency and volume, and is able use that information to make a perfect playback of the digital recording.

Could it be recreated by random chance? Sure. Would it? Probably not. At least not easily.

  • I like my Crocs, but for me they are not a very good shoe for my feet.

I have one pair of Crocs that I bought last year. First thing I noticed was the textured footbed. It’s kinda spiky and not very comfortable to me. I have been amazed at all of the comfort claims due to this. You can and do get used to it, but the first couple of weeks is not comfortable at all.

Also, I’m a big guy and Crocs don’t offer much in the way of arch support. I have never had arch issues until I wore Crocs on a regular basis.

  • I also lose interest in certain things when asked about them. I try to continue anyway, but I am not always successful at doing that. There is a project I am currently working on that I am struggling to complete because of this.

For me it’s the anxiety of disappointing the other person. I would rather they are disappointed right now rather than make an effort and have them still disappointed.

As I have gotten older I have learned to mostly ignore the the anxious thoughts, because they are often not true, but they are always there and I am not always able to shake those feelings.

Talk with your doctor. It’s likely they can help you with this.

  • Flirting is a cooperative effort. You can have great game and still fail if she isn’t interested. You might also meet a girl that gives you a positive reaction, but you might miss it if you aren’t looking at her that way. It takes two to make flirting work.

If you want to get to know girls; tell a few jokes or funny stories. If you think a girl might actually like you, tell her a dumb joke. If she laughs, she probably likes you. If she doesn’t laugh, she’s not interested yet. Keep trying and you will learn what works and what doesn’t.

There are lots of women in this world so try talk to as many women as you can. Be persistent without being aggressive and you will do just fine. There is someone out there for everyone.

There are lots of books like that. Time-Life, Popular Mechanics and the “For Dummies” series all have books that cover various handyman tasks. None of them cover everything, but they are a good way to learn the basics. There are books on decks, fences, woodworking, appliance repair and home wiring to name just a few.
Be warned: going down this path can lead to the expensive hobby of tool collecting. It is a disease that afflicts many of us and there is no known cure. In my teens I had a Crescent wrench, a couple of screwdrivers, and a hammer. Then I bought a drill… Three decades later, I now have multiple power tools of various shapes and sizes along with bits, blades, and disks to use with each of them. I also have large and small tool boxes to hold and carry them in.

  • I don’t know if there are any words that you will find comforting, so I will tell you how I cope when find myself in a spiral.

The universe is astoundingly, massively, stupid huge and you and I are here for only a fraction of a second compared to the life of a planet or a star. You matter because you are matter, but we are all insignificant and nobody is any more important than anyone else. You can kill yourself if that is truly what you want, or you could wait a little while longer and death will come for you soon enough. Try to realize just how amazing life is and consider how lucky you are to be here to experience it. I want to see what happens next, so I think I will hang out a little while longer. I can always die tomorrow.

If that doesn’t help you; try to be thankful that you are not Sam Bankman-Fried! That guy’s life really sucks!

  • According to this US Department of Energy website: “Currently, most hydrogen is produced from fossil fuels, specifically natural gas.”

Trains can be very fuel efficient when compared to how much they can haul. So naturally I would like to see this happen, but I also want to see more effort in moving away from fossil fuels in every place it is possible. The article is paywalled so I could not read it. I’m assuming the hydrogen for this project is from traditional hydrogen sources? That is problematic for me.

It’s also problematic if hydrogen is extracted from fresh water because we may need to use that for drinking water. Sea water is even more problematic when you try to figure out what to do with the extracted salt and other minerals. Dumping the salt back in the ocean seems right at first, but doing that even for a couple of days will kill aquatic life in the area near the outlet. Do it on a large scale for months or years and entire ecosystems will collapse for miles in every direction.

If this push for hydrogen trains is what I expect and really meant to allow the petroleum companies to continue polluting the atmosphere and get rich(er) doing it? I’ll pass.
