I recently unlocked (lol) Alohomora and the broom so my exploration opportunities have greatly increased. Wow this world is big and exciting! I stumbled upon a couple of river trolls the other day. The combat is unique from any other game and very fun.
I was initially super excited for this game. I wanted to explore Hogwarts and the grounds around it. The little towns and hamlets sounded like it was going to be so cool.
In the beginning, exploring Hogwarts was so cool and exciting. Seeing things from the movies and books was awesome and other things that weren’t mentioned added some excitement. But after a while, it becomes kinda stale. There isn’t much to do in your common room, so that’s just completely wasted space. In addition, the school itself seems sorta empty to me. There are so many places where there are literally no students. It all seemed to robotic to me. It didn’t have the charm. The room of requirement is really cool though, and seeing what other people have done with it is amazing even if I don’t have the patience or talent to do it myself.
As for the hamlets and villages around Hogwarts, I found them to be more or less the same with a few exceptions. I personally didn’t find the story to be engaging either. The flying in this has one of the worst mechanics I’ve ever played. Why can’t I look around while flying!?
The combat is kinda fun, but I also found that I just ended up using the same old spells. Sometimes I would use different spells for the bonuses, but if I didn’t care about that, I had no real motivation. If an enemy used protego, I could pretty must just ignore him until I could use some ancient magic.
Those are just my thoughts. Overall, I think it had so much potential, but it just kinda missed the mark on most things.
Fair points, I’d say it’s a good base to expand upon for a sequel.
For sure. After playing Diablo I kinda wish it were like that in some ways. There’s the campaign and side missions you can do on your own, but you also see other players while walking around and you can team up to do the quests or events that pop up randomly. Having that pseudo social aspect would’ve been kinda fun.
I really enjoyed the game. Thought it was fun to explore the world and there is a lot to find.
Good if you enjoy the universe! Its fun to explore and mess around in new but familiar locations.
Gameplay wise its…fine? Nothing revolutionairy, the flying sucks and the combat is pretty decent but feels very simple once you figure it out.
All in all, fairly solid game, casual friendly and enjoyable. I only made it around 2/3s, but my partner is on her 2nd playthough
I had an absolute blast playing Hogwarts Legacy! I am aware of and mostly agree with the criticisms of the game, but there’s just something about it that’s fun. I loved it.
Also, I’ve noticed that most people’s enjoyment of the game increased if they were already really into Harry Potter. The references and such go deep.
I had an absolute blast with this game and spent hours just exploring the map, the story is pretty neat and the customization is fun. Unfortunately, it got old rather quickly for me and the repetitiveness made me lose interest in it. I haven’t played for at least a month or so, but I’m getting the itch to start playing again.
I think this game has some great potential though and I hope we get some expansions and new content in the future.
Still no DLC announced?
Nothing that’s been announced yet, at least that I’ve seen
Take this with a grain of salt since I’ve dropped out of playing most games with any rigor: I created my character and played through about two missions until I could explore hogwarts some more. I was hoping the game would let me explore till my hearts content but quickly realized most doors and paths would be blocked off by spells or level restrictions. Stopped playing the following day.
I’m sure it was a blast if you’re a hardcore fan of the series. I would consider myself a pretty distant observer at best.
I wonder whether all the reasons why one shouldn’t contribute to the terf purse are still there for this game? Maybe not the place to ask, sorry, but not being a huge Harry Potter fan and accidentally stumbling on this on my local feed, I thought I’d just ask.
I’m mildly curious to try the game, but refuse to support the terfs, so just wondering whether they’ve done something like agreed to shut down all royalties to her for marketing purposes at some point?
JK Rowling will still make money off this game. If you don’t wanna support her, I’d recommend not playing.
