I think learning about men’s issues is bad for mental health. If you are a man, it definitely is. Feminists don’t care about men’s issues. If they did, there would be more positive changes occurring for men. It’s a futile exercise to debate feminists. It’s better for them to wake up by themselves.

I identify as anti-feminism, not anti-feminist. Anti-feminist sounds like I am against a group of people. I’m not against any group of people’s rights. Anti-feminism sounds like I am against the ideology, which I am. I guess that’s the proper term.

I have been reading articles from New Male Studies. It is a journal about men’s issues. They are a group of professors and scholars who write about men’s issues. Here is their website: https://www.newmalestudies.com/OJS/index.php/nms.

Abstract:

“Masculine identity has become increasingly problematic due to technological and cultural changes over the past ten thousand years, beginning with the horticultural and agricultural revolutions but gaining momentum with the industrial, military and reproductive revolutions. Egalitarian feminists have unwittingly exacerbated the problem by equating sexual equality with sexual sameness, leaving men unable to make even one contribution to society, as men, which is distinctive, necessary and can therefore be publicly valued–that is, unable to establish a healthy collective identity specifically as men. The result of this emptiness is a growing tendency to give up either by dropping out of school and or by committing suicide. Ideological feminists have thrown down the gauntlet, on the other hand, by ascribing to men a highly negative collective identity. The result of this misandry is an increasing number of men who believe that even a negative collective identity is better than no collective identity‚ at all. No solution will be possible without challenging pervasive assumptions about both boys and men.”

Nathanson, P., & Young, K. K. (2012). Misandry and emptiness: Masculine identity in a toxic cultural environment. New Male Studies Journal, 1(1), 4-18.

I read this article. It is very disturbing that there is a lot of misandry in our society. It causes men to commit suicide. The New Male Studies journal goes against everything that feminism teaches.

If it is bad for your mental health (and I do understand why), then maybe you should take a step back and shift your focus to things that are good for your mental health.

Seriously? By spending your time wisely. Go for a walk in nature. Go to the gym. Go read things that build you up. Remove TikTok and Reddit, and any other social media apps that fill your mind with negativity; or curate your feed so you get positive media instead of negative ones.

Someone shoulda told Martin Luther King or Ghandi that exposing yourself to the ugly reality of the world might negatively impact their mental health 🙄

Ofc it does, what did you expect the response to seeing the blatant and normalized bigotry and hatred directed at yourself to be? What did you think would happen, you realize female dominated industries are unconsentually sexually mutilating baby boys and it makes you, what, feel all warm and fuzzy inside?

unable to establish a healthy collective identity specifically as men.

But maybe quite some people don’t want to have a collective identity? And nothing is really stopping the rest from having one, it just turned out that men are a quite heterogeneous group - not easy to fit in one identity.

And we’re pitted against each other in every arena of our lives: professional, social, romantic, etc. I am so tired of the constant competition, but it’s a prisoner’s dilemma that women & society have every incentive to keep escalating.

You also don’t have to participate in unnecessary rivalry. I don’t like competition so I just don’t take part, I’m more into cooperation - that’s my jam.

I don’t really understand what you mean.

Oh boy, you start by not comprehending the full meaning of my words, I’m almost certain this is going nowhere, but here goes nothing.

You also don’t have to participate in unnecessary rivalry. I don’t like competition so I just don’t take part, I’m more into cooperation - that’s my jam.

Pit against: to cause (someone or something) to fight or compete against (another person or thing)

This means that it is external sources forcing this to happen; it is not my choice. Even if there are some small places where this competition doesn’t exist, they they will be corrupted eventually due to the prisoner’s dilemma I mentioned.

I’m also really tired of people like you giving this cop-out “just leave” non-answer whenever societal issues are brought up. Imagine if someone told a feminist to “just leave” the “patriarchy.”

I don’t really understand what you mean.

This concept is why any “chill” group I’ve been in has inevitably been ruined when one or more of the members gives in to the pressure to compete.

Dude, you took kind if personal. No Idea why. If you don’t care about other people understanding what you say - why bother writing in the first place?

Thank you for this basic language course. But my point was - that it’s not my experience. Here we can endlessly argue which experience is more valid - or try to understand why we have such different experiences. The first one is pointless the second one would be interesting.

I’m also really tired of people like you giving this cop-out “just leave” non-answer whenever societal issues are brought up. Imagine if someone told a feminist to “just leave” the “patriarchy.”

Because you see everything as a competition yourself. I don’t devalue your experience or want to convince you other wise, I share mine. Which can lead to an interesting conversation, or to shouting contest. But that is completely dependent on both of us and not on the society.

Here, some game theory 101 for ypu: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prisoner's_dilemma

I have an idea, what game theory is - that was not my question.

This concept is why any “chill” group I’ve been in has inevitably been ruined when one or more of the members gives in to the pressure to compete.

Why not call people out for their competitive behavior. Nothing stops a dick-measuring contest as fast as just calling it by it’s name.
