Hi, no update yesterday as I was out of town but now we’re back to the usual release cadence. This release brings an image uploader to comments (and other places), swipe to go back navigation, a new icon, and more.
Changelog
- Added ability to attach images to comments/the post body
- Added swipe to go back navigation
- Switching users should now refresh the drawer correctly
- Improved image caching, things should feel snappier now
- Added option to force links to open in external browser
- Added option to enable/disable swipe navigation
- Fixed an issue with pinch to zoom images, preventing accidental closes when trying to zoom in
- Added subscriber count when searching communities
- Community search results are now ordered by subscriber counts
- Removed a border between comments now that we have dividers, the goal was to break up comments a bit visually but the border isn’t needed if we have dividers.
- Added a new icon (credit to @Kuvwert@lemm.ee for designing it)
I’m looking into a issue with using ‘hide read posts’ where if the entire first page is read it won’t load the second page.

Thanks! Is there a way to mirror APK images on FDroid? Sometimes the PlayStore takes ages to reflect APK updates
Yeah it’s tough to know there’s something there but you just can’t get to it.
The missing image uploader on comments was really the last thing keeping me from deleting the rest of the Lemmy apps on my phone. Well done…
EDIT: Dang, that swipe-to-go-back implementation is smooooooth…
Now it’s mostly just “would be nice” type additions I’m hoping for, like:
- Showing my avatar & banner at the top of the side-menu when they exist, instead of just the username & instance name
- Tactile vibration feedback when collapsing a thread
- Removing the divider lines between cards on card view (now that card view is fixed)
- Saving settings without having to hit the “Save Settings” button that I always forget
- Maybe a bit more graceful error messaging at the bottom of the screen (e.g. replacing the raw 502 & 504 error outputs we’re seeing so much right now with a shorter “Sorry, the server is overloaded.” type message)
And I know this isn’t helpful or productive, but yikes does that icon remind me of some awful cryptocoin…
Haptic feedback for all swiping gestures would be a godsend 🙏
Agree with the error messages. Especially whilst lemmy.world is having issues, I’m seeing them a lot. Maybe having a little small popup you can dismiss, similar to how Sync did it?
Amazing update. This is looking like a good replacement for RiF for me.
The update doesn’t appear in Play Store to me for some reason at the moment.
I hope it’ll be available soon uwu
It’s out now!
It’s there now for me.
Yeah. I don’t know how people are getting it. Something seems off.
I’ve read somewhere pushing uldates to Google Play could take some hours… but I thought it take hours for everyone :P
oh well, sooner or later it’ll be available I’m sure :)
Should be available now! Yeah sometimes it takes a while to update. Not sure why.
I’m sure it’s great and I can’t wait to try it. Are there other repositories?
Small thing, but I’m pretty sure in the setting descriptions you want “affects” not “effects”.
Also, could you make it so it’s Connect for Lemmy in the play store for visibility, but just Connect as the app name on my screen? I know I can manually edit it but I noticed liftoff and jerboa recently did this.
Is it intentional you can’t down vote by swipe?
Thanks for another update 🎉
Out of curiosity, is there a plan for earning yourself some sweet moolah in the future? Been enjoying the app, donated, but was wondering if you had thought about that already.
Not really any plans beyond the donations which are nice. Right now I want to make Lemmy really easy to use and help grow the userbase. Maybe a year from now there could be a Connect Pro haha.
Hooray! The Icon is looking great on live! Tons of Awesome changes!
The icon! 🤩
Swiping to go back is perfection. Thank you!
Got the update, thanks!
Bug report (was the same in the previous versions):
I don’t see all of my subscriptions in the sub tab. A few are missing, including this community. I guess there is a limit?
How many subscriptions do you have about? I did a shortcut with pagination were it stops at 100 because I didn’t think anyone would have more than 100. Might be related…
I think that’s the problem, yeah. The problem with federated instances is that the numbers of duplicate communities is exploding. I guess one day it will be possible to merge or create multi-subs (like MultiReddits)
If I could add the community I’m browsing as a favorite it would solve that issue. Right now I can’t access this sub either through the Favorite or Subscribed tabs. I have to manually search for it each time.
If “add to favorites” was inserted in this dropdown menu that would solve the issue:
Do you happen to be doing some text sanitizing or setting size limits for password inputs? I have a complex special character full password that’s 64 characters in length and whenever I try to log into lemmy.ca it tells me that the server is returning “password_incorrect”, but I can log in via Jerboa with the copy & pasted password without issue.

Anyone else the issue that setting external browser setting does not work? Everytime I activate it and if I save it it gets reverted 🫤
Yup thanks for the feedback! I’m seeing that too and will be fixed in the next release (tomorrow).
After the update I can only seem to upvote/downvote top level comments. Does anyone else have this issue? Want to make sure it isn’t just me before I make a bug thread
I see that too. Going to hotfix it now.
Edit: hotfix is rolling out now. Should be live in 1-2 hours.
Great! I want to suggest some improvements:
- when I activate comments dividers there is no divider between the post and the first comment
- when I active comments dividers and activate the option to show post bottom bar, there are so blank spaces between comments
- when I close the keyboard on search bar on side menu there is no way to recall the keyboard unless I don’t close and reopen the side menu
Anyway, thank you for continuing to improve the app
