Ideally, id also be able to block an entire instance as well, such as the country/language specific ones where i dont speak the language.
I was literally looking for a way to do that when I came across this post. We REALLY need a way to filter out communities we don’t need.
Do you not use subscriptions…?
can only speak for myself, but I generally like to browse through everything, there’s always some interesting things popping up on magazines I haven’t subscribed to yet. I think subscriptions is more like a personal feed and “all” is like browsing. and blocking stuff is- well, to block out stuff I’m really not interested in

I would feel that would be what the federation section would be used for as well
What does that On/Off toggle do?
I haven’t tried it, but I assume it would show you only local content Kbin instead of including whatever users or content originated on another instance.
Im not sure it does anything quite yet, as kbin is in early alpha really. As nothing also shows up for Instances either.
There’s a section for blocked “domains” in your block settings but I’ve yet to figure out how to block entire instances
LMAO literally the next post down in my feed had the answer: https://kbin.social/m/kbinMeta/t/23632/How-to-block-an-instance-on-a-personal-level#entry-comment-93930
/d
= domain (e.g. so for the lemmygrad.ml domain, you’d use https://kbin.social/d/lemmygrad.ml )
And then there is a block button in the right side panel, next to the Subscribe link. At least, for desktop…
For mobile (even in “desktop site” view), it seems to appear beneath the list of posts/etc rather than as a right side panel. Just use find-in-page and search for “Subscribe”; should be right next to that.
On mobile, you can tap the hamburger button to quickly check th sidebar as well.
I have sadly just turned federation off since there isn’t a easy way block other instances yet.
Yeah this is definitely needed. I am browsing all/active just so I can gather up some magazines I’m interested in but I’m hit with a ton of non-English mags/channels. I’m blocking them as I see them but there are a ton. It’s all part of the growing pains for sure so I’m not going to be impatient about it or anything, but this is a needed feature.
Personally, I feel like having the block button constantly appearing next to every magazine name might be overkill. I’d be happy to have an interface like …
-
Block
- Block User
- Block Magazine
- Block Instance
… under the “more” menu.
I love this idea. Simple, elegant and not prone to accidental inputs.

with all the garbage out there, this was probably my most favourite function on reddit, filtered out like 80% of the content I wasn’t interested in. I think going to a magazine everytime just to block it is just a pain in the ass
that’d definitely be useful. I haven’t really blocked any magazines yet, but it would be a good way to clean up the main “all” feed.
I just wish I could hide individual posts that I’m not interested in. Reddit and Squabbles have this, and it makes cleaning up the junk from my feed a lot more convenient.
I would think the best course to block a magazine would be on the magazine itself, or like in your screenshot maybe have block options under “more” to prevent accidental clicks. Or add some more whitespace between the title of the magazine and the block option.
I think a useful option would be if someone could code a pop up dialog showing the magazines info (with the subscribe and block button) that appears when your cursor hovers over the name of the magazines.
You already can! Just open the side bar (over by subscribe/unsubscribe) and click on the stop sign icon to block that magazine
