Sorry if this is a dumb question or been asked before but I am struggling to find the ‘communities’ button if there is one, where you can view all? I saw it on a Lemmy guide but they were using a different app. Does anyone know the best way to find new without having to search for something specific? At the minute I am browsing all and finding things by chance. Thanks!
For most of the bigger instances you can type in the instance url and add /communities. For example:
https://lemmy.world/communities
When in doubt you can Google “list of communities for (insert instance name)” and you may find a relative link if it’s named something else.
This is perfect, thank you!
You’re welcome! It’s nice that all the lists look the same too. The only downside is you have to search for the community in an app to subscribe to it if you don’t have an account on that instance
I find it easier to search and subscribe on desktop, then it’ll all be there in whichever app you use. Especially if you’re looking for a bunch.
I’m sure it is. But I never use desktop for Reddit or now Lemmy

I meant do all the subscribing on desktop, but then use the app as usual. Just easier to search/subscribe on desktop so you can set up the app easier.
A few tips, from my first attempts:
If you go to All and choose sort by Active, Top Hour, or New Comments, you’ll find all kinds of weird things. It’s a great way to stumble upon communities.
If you see a comment or post by someone who you thought was great, a good idea is to click on their profile, then see what other communities they’re active in. It’s possible that their interests are also your interests.
Finally, the search function somehow manages to work better than Reddit. Search for stuff!
Commenting to mention that a recent update added a browse communities feature 🥳 to use it, click on an instance name (in a post, etc) and click “View communities”:
