I was on a work trip and on the same return flight as few other colleagues including my boss.

For context:

  • I have tendered my resignation due to my boss being a toxic, abusive person who has on many occasions threatened to fire me and other people behind their back. He will constantly “ask for feedback” while insinuating something bad about the person he want feedback on and I refused to participate in his games. I have also received backlash for this and being sick of this vicious cycle I decided to leave. As you can see, despite my admiration for his competency at work I have zero admiration for his work ethics nor like him on a personal front.
  • On day of the flight, all of us arrived at the airport and cleared customs with less than 45mins before flight due to depart. Said boss decided to go for a massage with his airline membership.
  • The flight boarding was earlier than expected and by 20mins before the original departure timing, they were already boarding the last group. I did not notice and was not seated near the others (I had to take a call from recruiter and was told to keep the resignation a secret) so when I was going to board the flight I asked the others where is the boss. They has yet to see him and I asked them to call … specifically after one of them said they would call in another 5mins but to me there’s no time because they’re already boarding the last group…
  • I message the boss and told him boarding is earlier and to come quick, then I boarded the plane anyway, because I evaluated that 1) the boss is a seasoned traveler. 2) He is not a stranger to this country and could handle even if he miss his flight. 3) Staying behind like the others might cause all of us to miss the flight and financial cost to the company is 5x which isn’t wise. 4) The boss made a conscious decision to go for a massage instead and he should be ready to bear the consequence if need be.

Finally, all of them boarded the flight as the last passengers but I can’t help thinking AITA?
