Completely hypothetical of course. But I feel like that is a lot of money and do I really need an extra kidney that much?

    It would absolutely not be worth it, considering the kidney filters blood and produces urine.

    You have two of them for the same reason you have two eyes to see with and multiple teeth to chew with: if one fails, you have a backup. If for any reason that backup fails, you’re fucked.

    No. My father had a kidney removed because an asshat doctor cut first, biopsied after. (The tumor was benign.) He was okay for a couple of decades. But the last decade on dialysis was pure hell. And if you need $15K, you surely don’t have the kind of health insurance that would pay for dialysis.
