It’s the usual 25 year retro cycle, right? See for example the 00s indie rock throwback. I do enjoy it though. Much more than hyperactive retro 90s Techno…

None of the bands in the article sound like those bands. It’s more like Bright Eyes and soft fuzz.

But I’m down with a new generation of rock.

Yeah, seems like the writer was mainly focusing on the visual aesthetics (especially in their videos) rather than the music itself.

      Yessssss!!

Also, I just ran across Descartes A Kant, and they’re fabulous. Got a great grungy Breeders vibe. I found em on Bandcamp.

    pop music is always interesting.

it iterates on itself over and over and over until a disruption comes (think when late 80s and 1990 pop vapid pop got hit with grunge’s and authenticism of REM in the early 90s) - which then pop adapted, started pumping out 90s rock that iterated on itself for a few years until hip-hop took over.

So interesting. Young folks must be getting bored of where pop was going with the Swifts & Beyonces and whatnot, especially once the parents got into it, and now they are pivoting.

Good for them! Let’s hit those distorted d-tuned power chords y’all!

I like all 3 bands (and Punisher is a top 10 all timer for me) but I don’t see the connection between Phoebe Bridgers and Radiohead/NMH. The reasoning they gave feels like a big stretch to throw in some noteworthy artists…as if Phoebe hasn’t made a name for herself in her own right
